An interview with Dan Copeland,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I started in Photography in the late 60s Don't really remember why but I bought a Canon FX1 and started shooting then building a darkroom and processing my own Photos

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No real formal training, I did read a lot of articles on photography and experimented a lot both in camera and darkroom. I was employed as a TV camera man for a few years and as a freelance videographer for a few local TV stations where I learned better framing of images and to operate a camera in the dark otherwords know your camera inside and out.
Presently I am into Nature Photography but then I do like doing time-lapse and other experimental shooting .

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
Hard to say Impact at first then looking at the detail and then figuring out how they did it.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
In this shot I used Tamron 80mm macro lens a Product tent and out door lighting

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Yes I process my final images and it all over the place I never seem to do the same procedure twice

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
No one in particular I guess from reading and viewing other images and then experimenting on my own

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
Yes I would be more careful of the placement of the flowers and hide the clip better holding them

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I guess it would be purchasing quality lenses and to experiment more with different techniques (but back then film was expensive by today's standards)

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
I built a device so that I can manipulate my 20 lbs camera and lens for shooting birds in flight

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
My work horse lens I use mostly is my 100-400

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I carry a flash unit but have yet to use it.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Clean up my Web site

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have a web site but is a mess right now

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
The only advice I have and have given is keep shooting and experiment with your camera to get the most out of it.

An interview with alissaspieces,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have been doing this for about 2 years. It all began on a trip to Italy where I bought a new camera and fell in love with photography. I came home, upgraded to a DSLR and have been learning and experimenting ever since.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I have taken classes at the local college and camera store. I do a lot of reading online, books and watch many youtube videos.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
I am not sure, I think it is a photo that creatively either captures a mood or a story or an emotion.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
I used my macro 105mm lens, off camera flash and a backdrop of a flag paper plate to use as the refraction. I actually learned this technique from videos and descriptions that were posted here at UHH.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Yes, I post process most of my work in lightroom. I start out by sharpening, adding saturation, contrast, etc because I shoot in raw. I also end up cleaning up my images from the massive amount of sensor dust that has accumulated lately.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I was inspired by many of the posts here at UHH to try this technique and continue to try and improve upon it.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
I think part of photography is to keep experimenting and playing. I don't think I would change anything but I know I would like to keep working on my skills and continue to grow and improve.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
To get low and shoot to the light.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
Hmmm...so many! I love my reflectors, my 9stop nd filter and my softbox.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
My 50mm prime 1.8. It takes excellent images. However, I am waiting for my 85mm 1.8 arrive and I am curious to see if this will take the lead soon!

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I take my flash, reflector and if I am doing portrait work then my umbrella and stand.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Shop? Lol

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
Well, when I set up my makeshift photo studio in the kitchen to create the water drop photos, my teenage kids walked into the kitchen, looked at my set up, rolled their eyes and walked out. I think in years to come I am going to hear about how "mom was always doing these wacky experiments in the kitchen when I was growing up". Gonna make for good material to tease me when I get older!

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
https://www.alissabeth.weebly.com

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Just keep shooting.

An interview with Tony R,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Almost 50 years. Developed my first roll of film in the Boy Scouts and was "hooked"

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No real formal training. I enjoy fine art, macro and landscapes.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
Compositional stopping power. And, a view of something we see often that is approached from a different point of view.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Can you walk us through it? Used a Nikon D5200 with a 40mm Macro lens. Mounted on a tripod and released with a cable release. Stopped down to get depth of field and the star pattern from the sun.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I use LightRoom 5.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
Basically, the classic photographers. They made the best of light management and were expert post processors.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
I might have zoomed in closer to avoid so much cropping in post processing.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
Better exposure control. The zone system is still relevant in digital.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
My tripod and cable release.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
My 24 - 105mm zoom because it gives me enough options for an average day of shooting.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I usually have a speed-light, diffusion dome and a light diffuser for available light.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Probably some other form of visual art, water color or sculpture.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Working on a Squarespace site.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
It's most important to be "technically" proficient before one tries to be artistic.
