I need an opinion...

My hiking buddy's birthday is coming and I want to give him a print of a photo that I think is pretty good. I would like to get some feedback on if I need to do anything to it. I would like to keep the dimensions, so I am having it custom framed. Other than that, are there any suggestions? He doesn't know I took this shot, so it will be a total surprise. Please feel free to do PP work on it if it helps illustrate what your saying.

This shot might be a great candidate for metalized printing, or printing on aluminum. The mountain would really stand out that way.

Just wondering, looks by the shadow from the hiker the sun is coming from the upper left and yet the upper left of the mountian is dark, maybe a cloud but see no blue sky. Nice shot as it stands tho, 'cept I make it a point to never walk in the snow with shorts on.

That dark spot is me over vignetting, I tend to do that sometimes. I see what you mean though, I think I can still change it back. I cant remember if I lost this one's unedited version. Thank you for the suggestion.

I like the photo and I would be happy to receive it as a gift. My concern is that if you frame it you are going to lose the top of the mountain because it is cropped so close. If you can, re-crop and take a little off the bottom to maintain the size you want. Other option is to clone in a little sky over the top of the mountain. I just hate to see you lose that top part of the mountain when you custom frame it.

You bring up a great point that I didn't even think of, now I thinking I must go on a journey through my vast photo collection and see if I have the original somewhere. (crosses fingers)

Composition's great, but I'm a contrast nut. L like something to be black, and something in the frame to be white. The snot on my screen looks a little gray.

Here is the straight out of the camera with no PP version (this is actually the next photo, but very similar). Maybe I can see/read what can be done. I am very happy I found it...took a while.

On the other hand, cropping the top of the mt will leave the viewer wondering how high it actually is.

Much better. May I suggest bumping up the contrast just a little? With your permission, I can show you what I mean. Will not post unless you say it's ok. A very thoughtful gift...something he will cherish forever. I did something similar years ago with a photo of my brother fishing...he still has it hanging on his living room wall. <sigh>
