Taking a long trip in Europe and have decided against schlepping my Nikon with all the heavy glass. Instead looking at an Olympus OMD E M1 to take with me. Specs seem great. Any UHHers have experience with this camera? Any other suggestions ?

I took my EM 1 to Europe in April and was so glad for its compact size, in-body Stabilization, accessible button array and small lenses. There was no way to use a tripod and wagging around a heavy kit walking 8+ hours a day on cobblestone would've killed me. Lenses used most- the 20 prime and the versatile and waterproof 12-50. The 40-150 was all the tele I needed. The new EM 10 looks nice and feels good to hold but I like having all those external controls on the EM1, and the big Bright EVF.

I have the Em 10 .. Half the cost of the EM 1 and a lot of the same. Specs, light and wildly flexible, nice movies too. Love the in camera HDR , very subtle to significant, plus you can do bracketing and do HDR processing post. Great auto scene modes too. To many options to mention. Look at the reviews. Sony has a camera in the range of the em 1,that a lot of people like but there is no comparison to the em 10 .. For price to performance ratio in mirrorless. Nothing comes close.

Have you looked at the Canon SL1 and STM lenses? It's pretty compact also. ;-)

The EM-1 is close to the perfect balance of weight and features while giving you the image quality and durability of other professional cameras. It is weather resistant and even freeze proof! Combined with the 12-40 pro lens, you will be hard pressed to get a better combination of size and image quality. Even with the battery grip it's easy to carry around all day.

People who have switched to the OMD line of cameras from big rigs find themselves with the camera in their hands a lot more often and having fun again.

Some have even said it changed their lives!

3 months ago I would have purchased the EM1 had I gone mirrorless.
Today I would purchase the Sony A7R. 34MP on a true full size sensor.
Hopefully in a month or two.....

I opted for the Olympus OMD-EM5 with four prime lenses and I cannot put it down. Brilliant in low light and the quality of the optics is outstanding. Produces excellent A3 prints.

The em1 rocks. If you need photo examples just ask, I have plenty. Couple it with a 7.5 12-40 and the 75, and you have a combo that is tough to beat. The 25mm f1.4 and 45 1.8 is no slouch either.

The lenses aren't. For me the sl1 button layout is way more cramped than the em1. I think it has to do with the fact that the sl1 is still as thick as a normal dslr

The OMD E-M1 with the battery grip, the 12-40 f2.8pro and the 75mm is a fantastic travel kit. I agree with CDouthitt in that if you want light, capable and fantastic Image Quality, that some (actually any/all) of the available primes will certainly NOT disappoint. The camera is fun and easy to use. The SOOC JPEGS are ridiculously good. The build quality and features of this rig are comparable to cameras twice the price. Its weather-sealing, 5-axis IBIS (stabilization), EVF, fast AF and terrific touchscreen are all state-of-the-art. The lenses are also at the top of the heap.
This is a mature system that might definitely CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!! :D
