I have CS3 and PSE 11. PSE 11 will open/process my Nikon D90 NEF files. But I can't get PS in CS3 to do it. When I select "File/open" the file types shown include CAMERA RAW (and NEF is one of the types in parentis), I get a error msg that says it is not the right kind of file. Does anyone know if CS3 (PS) will open NEF and how to do it?

I am not sure if it helps but try Help, Update.

Cs3 came out before the D90 did. Therefore it will not process D90 raw files.
Thanks, I was afraid of that.
Is there a software converter that will reformat D90 NEF to a format compatible for CS3 PS raw?
Is there a CS3 addon/plugin that will do it.

I think if you convert your files to .tiff in view nx2 that you can then work on them in cs3.
I seldom use the Nikon SW; I'll try it. Thanks again.
You can download Adobe Camera Raw
According to Adobe CS3 should be able to process D90 raw files as long as your camera raw is at version 4.6:
Camera Raw 4.6 update
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe Creative Suite 3, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 and Premiere Elements 4.0 software.
Important notice:
Read the following installation instructions carefully. Incorrect installation will prevent Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw 4.6 from reading raw images correctly.
Support for the following camera has been added in this update. Visit the Camera Raw page for a complete list of supported cameras.
Canon 1000D (Digital Rebel XS/EOS Kiss F)
Canon 50D - Fuji FinePix IS Pro - Kodak EasyShare Kodak Z1015 IS
Leaf AFi II 6 - Leaf AFi II 7 - Leaf Aptus II 6 - Leaf Aptus II 7
Nikon D700 - Nikon D90 - Nikon Coolpix P6000

I agree. This newer updated version of ACR should work. I wouldn't download it this way though. I'd start by doing an update from CS3. Do this by opening CS3, go to the menu help> and update. It will automatically check for updates for CS3 and ACR.

As Catfish252 stated, the ACR upgrade should work. The other thing you can do is download Adobe DNG converter, then convert your RAW NEF files to DNG. Those should open on CS3. Either way, looks like you need to download some software.

You have one -open the file in PS Elements 11, Once it is opened convert from RAW to PSD, then transfer that PSD file to CS3. You may find they Elements 11 has more powerful editing tools than CS3, unless you need the CMYK conversion functions.
Thanks, another great idea. The power of a collaborative internet.
That worked fine. there are some features of PSE 11 I don't like (mostly in color control) and wanted to be able to go from RAW to CS3 when desired. This now lets me convert to DNG before editing, save and then open in CS3 to complete the process. Thanks for the info.

If you don't press on the Quote Reply then we don't know who you are thanking for the info. (I know it wasn't me so I'm not worried, but it's just nice to know who you are replying to)
