May seem like a silly question, but here goes. I have some older Pentax (50mmf1.8) and Mamiya (50mmf1.2) from film days. Is there anyone who makes adapters that I could use on a Nikon D3100? I understand that it would all be manual etc, but that is OK. Would it be practical to try to do this when you can buy new or refurb for a couple of hundred dollars. Just trying to use some old equipment. Thanks for any input.

I considered this for my Canon, I have Pentax screw mount lenses (M42? mount), German, Isco 135mm and Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm, decided that for what I lose AE/AF not to chase adapters, hope this helps, Bob.

if you have some hi-end lenses and can live with manual everything. then it's worth looking for a adapter.

jc, it would probably be very worthwhile to adapt the f1.2, as that's probably a VERY good lens. Nobody would make an f1.2 that was not professional grade!. good luck. ;-)

There used to be mount adaptors made to use a pentax thread on a Nikon, Canon, or Minolta bayonet mount. But that was years ago. Not sure who made them. Good luck in that search.
Ha, if I had my lathe and mill up and running, I could probably make one.

Try www.fotodioxpro.com I use one of their Canon fd to Sony alpha adaptors. Very reasonable price too.

I have a Yashica 50MM f1.2 M42 mount that works great with an adapter on my Canon T1i DSLR. The adapter also provides for a focus indication in the manual and Aperture priority mode.

What mount is your Pentax lens? I recently got an adapter for the Pentax K mount to Nikon that works well, albeit fully manual.

You can find the adapters on eBay, Around $15. There are 2 types: 1. without glass that does not focus to infinity but which will not degrade the image, 2. with glass that can focus to infinity but the extra glass will somewhat degrade the image quality. You can get either type of adapter with an electronic focus indicator that will beep the camera when the subject is in focus. These are slightly more expensive. I have tried all types and for a high quality old lens, it is worth getting the adapter.

I tried that with my Nikon DSLR's. With Nikon's longer registration distance, it wasn't worth it. So, I picked up an older mirrorless 4/3rds camera & adapters so my older Leica, Minolta, Pentax, Konica & Yashica lenses have new life.... Much easier to adapt the lenses to a camera with such a short registration distance...

I've adapted 7 of my Leicaflex lenses to Nikon with Fotodiox adapters. All focus at infinity, with no correction lens. Stop-down metering, of course.

Not a silly question at all. One thing to verify if you go that route - I seem to recall that you loose 1-2 f-stops when you install an adapter between the lens and body. Maybe just certain adapters, but check to be sure before you spend the money.

I bought 4 or 5 OM lenses for my first M4/3 -- E-P1 on eBay. When I dealt with adapters, focusing with eye glasses etc. , I found my results with auto focus was just as good if not better with the kit lens not to mention add on Oly and Pana. lenses since acquired. So I sold the OMs and one Nikon 300mm back on eBay.

I have quite a few older lenses from Minolta, Zeiss, Fuji, Pentax etc., and I use them all on my Canon, well worth it.
