I just got another Service Advisory from Nikon. It is the same one they issued back in March. I sent my camera in then and they supposedly replaced the shutter mechanism for the second time.
Has any one else here gotten another advisory again lately?

I'm puzzled. are they trying to tell me something? Again?

I haven't actually checked for spots lately. I've been trying to forget about them. Has anybody had any re-occurring spots since the last recall and shutter replacement?

Well, you are in luck they are exchanging the 600s to 610s so...

I am reading the re-emailed service advisory as Nikons way of making sure everyone that has one of the D600 bodies gets the shutter replacement done prior to the end of the program. I would imagine Nikon will replace these shutters forever if needed, but the current program pays shipping both ways, and I would guess that will eventually stop. I have sent in a total of 15 so far (7 for customers), my last one is in the box right now and will be dropped off at UPS tonight on the way into town for a pizza.

I got that e-mail too. I bought my D600 refurbished and have not had any spot problems.

I've heard that rumor, but have never seen anything factual about it from Nikon.

Me too Mac. That "crock" has gone all around the internet and I have yet to hear definitively about anybody getting a replacement from Nikon. Some dealers have replaced them but as far as Nikon replacing them.....NO!

Verified it, using Nikon as a source.

You are absolutely right Nikon will not replace the camera but in some extreme situations that are not clear at all so.. NO replacement.

My statement was wrong. Sorry.

Re-read your service advisory email again. At the end of the "solution" paragraph it details the replacement policy. They will replace if the excessive dust issue persists after the shutter replacement has been done.

OK> Yes I see that. I wonder what "The statute of limitations" will be on that. I must say my D600 is still clean, but I haven't been shooting much with my shoulder(surgery recovery). Still in a sling. Time will tell.

If it's convenient to have it serviced, you might want to just send it in during the program. The simple advantage would be if you decide to sell it, having a receipt of the shutter replacement might help.

Perhaps what I hear is lopsided as I have Nikon bodies and don't pay attention to Canon or Sony issues but it seems like Nikon has been plagued with spot issues for several years now... wouldn't you think they'd have figured out how to avoid it and implement the change in their manufacturing process? I'm thinking there were oil spot issues with the D7000 bodies as well as some other model about two years ago - I've got two of them and only had to clean the sensor in one of them so far in the three or so years I've been using them so I have no complaints.

I actually called Nikon service about the email. They said it was sent as a reminder to those they have on record that have purchased the 600 even if you have already had yours fixed. The lady also stated that IF the problem persists and you continue to get "oil spots" not dust spots, beyond normal cleaning, then you should contact Nikon and they will determine if the camera needs replaced. Since mine was fixed, I have not seen the problem as of yet.

I got the same notice several days ago. I have no issues since the repair, so I ignored the email.
