If it will run on XP, it stands a 99.99999% chance of running on Win7

I say 99.99999% because nothing is ever 100%

Well if you use the XP emulator. Many programs do not work on Windows 7 and many more not on 64 bit Windows 7. There is supposed to be a way to run an XP emulator but I haven't tried it.

As a person who makes his living being a computer geek, I have so far found only 2 very specialized pieces of software that needed me to run Windows XP mode on Win 7 to make them work. Yes the XP emulator that Micro$oft supplies does work well. But if the program is relatively recent, you probably aren't going to need the emulator.

Hmmm. Adobe 6 doesn't work and Quicken Home Inventory doesn't either. Only two non-Microsoft I have tried.

The operative part of my statement was "Relatively recent".

Adobe 6 is ancient by my standards. Is the copy of Quicken just as old? Maybe the problem was that the shortcuts the installers made pointed to "C:\Program files" instead of understanding the concept of "c:\program Files (x86)" where Win 7 64 bit wants to stick 32 bit programs.

I've had success with Adobe 7 and newer on Win 7 (32 and 64 bit). I've had problems with Byers mapping software (used for tracking where you plant phone poles and electrical transmission lines) as well as some safety database program whose dialog boxes were right out of Win 3.1 - And they just last week paid $2k for that one.

The Quiken Home Inventory we bought new last year. I followed up with them and they said they had no plans to make a 64 bit version.

I was happy as a clam with Acrobat 6...Microsoft made me pay $100 to get a new that didn't do anything for me.

When I first got CS5, I was using WinXP--CS5 is a major memory hog, so eventually I bought a laptop with Win7. Photoshop runs much better on Win7 (of course the extra memory on my laptop is greater as is the i7 processor). I did not change anything in CS5 to run it in Win 7.
