Awhile ago I posted an announcement of a celestial event that I heard about which is to occur tomorrow (Thursday January 26) at sunset. There will be a crescent moon in the west after sunset with the planet Venus somewhere above it. I was looking forward to shooting it but my camera is on the fritz and it's supposed to be overcast in these parts anyway. I was hoping that other UHH members would be able to get some shots of it and start a thread featuring them. I'm dying to see what you guys come up with. Thanks so much!

I just got chastised for posting my pictures on someone else's thread but I took these two years ago and thought would risk the displeasure of others to share with you. Apparently as close as they will be for thirty years. Taken from lookout point in Joshua Tree. Enjoy.

Great! Thanks a lot, Mr. Modest. I'm seeing 2 things near the moon. I'm sure one is Venus. Do you know what the other one is?
Jupiter I believe. Just above moon to the left is Uranus but some doubt has been cast if it is truly a planet... Gung ho fat choy.

You mean besides Pluto not being a 'real' planet, now we have another one that might not be?? Our solar system is quickly diminishing. I wonder if Earth is a real planet. :roll:
