I noticed this duck amongst some mallards and Canadian geese at a small pond that still had a little open water today. Anyone know what it might be? It has black feet and black eyes. There was only the one of these amongst the almost 100 birds there.
The duck is an American Wigeon (Male)

Thank you Judy, had never seen one before. We had 80mph winds last night, maybe he was migrating and got blown off his route from somewhere.

you are welcome. We saw some last month. Had to look them up. The female is similar but not green on the face. She's kinda gray faced.
If I may... here is picture I took last week.
Male & Female American Wigeon and American Coot
I googled it and apparently we are normal territory for them in their migratory path but they winter in the South. This is obviously an immature male of the species based on the tail coloring and the lack of green coloring behind the eyes.
Thanks again.

Drake Widgon... they are found in all American flyways, migrate as far south as Mexico in winter
This one is in full color and markings...
I have put a few in my bag over the years
