I recently visited a friend of mine in the UK. She is an avid photographer of the point & shoot genre, but wants to go the next step and learn the ability to do basic editing such as available in Lightroom. My thought was to download the free trial of Lightroom and let her try it. However it appears all the recent software requires a 64 bit computer and hers is 32 bit! A new computer is not an option at this time. Does anyone out there know of editing software that will run on a 32bit machine?
Any information will be much appreciated, thanks.

Serif's PhotoPlus and Corel's PaintShopPro will still run on 32bit computers.

Err.. LR comes in both versions. You need to find it from the UK site.
Lightroom 3 was able to run on Win XP but is no longer supported or retailed.
Lightroom 4 (now unsupported) requires Vista or Win 7, LR5 (current version) is only available for 64 bit machines.
PS Elements 12 will run on XP 32 bit machines

Thanks, I'll take a look at them.
Get the stuff from here.
Near the bottom you clearly see that 32 bit is available.
Just select carefully when DL.

I checked, current versions are 64 bit, older versions are not available - they were 32 bit.
That was my experience, I had tried the download while in the UK, no 32 bit offered.

DL PageI stand corrected! However, this appears to be part of the Creative Cloud subscription and we were looking for a standalone version. CC may be a viable option as one does not seem to have to commit to a long term contract.
If nothing works...
Use your Adobe free ID and ask the question on the LR forum. Specify from the UK.
I would suggest you try Photofiltre. Version 7 is free and if it is liked the more powerful Studio X version is £30.00.
Definitely runs on 32 bit systems.
My standalone Lightroom allows me to use it on 2 machines. If you have it, maybe you can adopt your friend for a while to see if it works for them.
It may be the case that the computer has a 64bit processor but with a 32 bit version of windows. If so its possible to install a 64 bit version of windows as a dualboot system
why dualboot? because windows programs seem to prefer to be on one or the other. e.g a 32 bit version of photoshop will not install on a 64 bit version of windows. Another way would be to set up a version of windows in a vm (virtualmachine) using virtualbox for example.
check out PhotoScape, it is free and very powerful and I recommend it to my students all the time.
At one time he had videos, available that could be found along with the software, however, I believe those can now be found on youtube, but can be reached within the program itself.
