I"m new to this forum, Im going on a cruise vacation , on my favorite cruise line, royal caribbean......I plan on doing some snorkeling in grand Cayman, and Labadee, Royal"s private island
in Haiti.........last year, I went snorkeling there, with my brand new Nikon 1 AW 1, which flooded on my first dive attempt, although I followed all instructions to the letter, needless to say,I was very upset, spendin a thousand dollars for a point and shoot water proof camera, and it floods on my first dive?? when I came home I went to nikon out here in long Island, and brought the camera to their repair headquarters, and they deemed it defective, and gave me a brand new one, so this year, after submergeing it in a tub of water, it seems all sytems are go, but I"m also bringing my Nikon coolpix 120 water proof camera as a back up, any other ideas guys???

I did 38 dives in 8 days in Grand Cayman. the north side has very dramatic dives but if you get a chance to dive Orange Canyon do it!! (I believe it is considered a south side dive) im not a misty, emotional guy but when I dove that place I almost had system overload. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. you would need a poet to properly describe the coral formation colors and when I swam through the archway there was a massive grouper w/ its mouth wide open getting its teeth cleaned out by a slew of cleaner shrimp. I was w/in 2 feet of them and they just didn't care. it was like we were in a no kill zone. the grouper wasn't allowed to eat the shrimp and I wasn't allowed to hurt any of them. make sure to use a dive computer. you get extra bottom time and actually get extra dives before you fly out. I guess in your case that doesn't matter if you're leaving by boat. enjoy, im jealous!!! Gary. ps if you get talked into going to sting ray city, don't be the one holding the squid unless you want a REALLY close encounter!
