What a head of hair this little guy has and so adorable. I am not a portrait photographer, but there are others on here that are very good. Hopefully they will pop in with some suggestions.

Congrats on the new baby! He is so cute.
Your focus is a little soft but hospital rooms are NOT known for their great lighting, your ISO was most likely pretty high which is resulting in the grain (noise) you are seeing.
How are you shooting?
Are you using a pre-program mode?
Are you letting the camera pick the focal point? If so turn it off and switch to single point focus. To start leave the focal point in the middle and when you are comfortable you can start moving to other focal points. Do use Auto Focus.
Read the manual more than once and play with the camera while reading.
When you are ready pick up a copy of "Understanding Exposure" it will explain the relationship between ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed, but don't worry about that yet. Start out getting comfortable with your camera and having fun.
I used pre-programed portait setting (auto focus)with canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX. I also let the camera pick the focal point, which I will change that setting.

Ya don't let the camera pick the focal point, it doesn't have a clue what is important in the image and will search for the area with the highest contrast ratio.
MWAC, love your new avatar.
