Prisoner swap.
Subject: Historically illiterate
You may recall that a few weeks ago, our illustrious president spoke of past presidents making prisoner swaps at the end of wars that took place on their watch, much like his swap he said convincingly.CNSNews.comcarried this quote, "This is what happens at the end of wars," President Barack Obama said Tuesday when he was asked about swapping American Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five Taliban terrorists. "That was true for George Washington , that was true for Abraham Lincoln, that was true for FDR. That's been true of every combat situation, that at some point, you make sure that you try to get your folks back. And that's the right thing to do.
While that sounds good, let's check our historical facts- the Revolutionary War ended in 1783 and Washington did not become president until 1789. Lincoln was assassinated in mid April, 1865 and the war didn't end until May, the month following. As for FDR, he died of a stroke before the end of WWII. So there you have it, none of these presidents were in office at the ends of those wars, making it impossible for them to make any prisoner swaps.
So much for our historically illiterate president. You would think that someone on his staff would keep him from making these foolish blunders, but speaking half truths and telling whole lies has become his pattern of speech when it comes to the American public. [This is true for his entire administration!!!]
I wonder if after visiting all of the 58 states he get's down to do his job, instead of dividing the country.
The concept that the President was going for, and I know it is just too far over your head, is that prisoner swaps during wartime were quite common. In the Civil War, Union and Confederate prisoners were swapped after signing a warrant pledging that they would not take up arms in the current conflict against the Union or Confederate side.
On WWII battlefields, German and Allied commanders would negotiate cease fires to evacuate wounded and exchange prisoners.
Your illiterate point, well misses the point.

Your slavery to the liberal ideology prevents you from seeing the point. When a President of the United States speaks we expect the truth and actual facts to come out of his mouth. We do not expect him to make up stories to bolster his point of view.
Prisoner exchanges are a fact of life. However, there are no documented cases of prisoners accused of war crimes being exchanged. The exchanges always involve normal everyday soldiers who where just doing their duty. We gave up known terrorists for what may or may not be a deserter.

Missing the point seems to be your forte. Obumer is a LIAR! Nothing more, nothing less. He says whatever he feels the crowd wants to hear. His "concept" is to use his mouth when the use of his absent brain is needed. He is NOT a leader, never will be. His ego is too large and his ability is too lacking. He is a despicable wort on the ass of America!

Actually, regular prisoner exchanges took place from the beginning of the civil war. Captured soldiers were paroled and at least were supposed to go home until a prisoner(s) from the other side were identified. Once matched up, paroles from both sides rejoined their units. Exchanges were based on equivalent value (i.e., a captain for a captain or XX privates for one captain. This all came to a halt in about 1863 when the Confederacy refused to exchange black Union soldiers and the Federals insisted on equal treatment. This lead to some extremely inhumane prison camps on both sides.
Its ironic that the south effectively ended the practice as it benefitted them the most because they had less manpower from which to draw.

And so you were going to leave him in the hands of the Taliban until you proved he was a deserter.
Imagine the world outcry if the U.S. winds down its role in Afghanistan and leaves a soldier in the hands of the enemy.

No one said that. What is being said is that we did not have to trade five of the worst for one of ours. We could have traded twenty of the rank and file soldiers without much being said.

Blame it on the fact that he did not have a teleprompter. He blames it on Bush.
