I'm planning a trip to Kenya and the Masai Mara for late March. My camera is Panasonic FZ150. It's a new camera for me, and I'll be practicing a lot between now and then. Any advice from someone who has done this before? I have a polarizing filter. Do I really need anything more? I will be mostly hand held, but also will have a tripod with me, backup batteries, and lots of memory chips. I probably will shoot mostly JPEG with some RAW+Jpeg for odd situations.
We went last Summer, and my wife shoots with a FZ-100. You will have a tendency to overexpose your first shots until you get used to all of the great light. Set your white balance to cloudy. It gives shots a slightly golden tone, reminiscent of the magic light before sunset. Experiment with scene modes like beach, snow, or sports. Sports mode works well with wildlife, because they are usually moving and you may have to be quick to catch some of the best action shots. In full manual, play around with aperture and shutter speeds.
Memory is going to a crucial element of your experience. I took an inexpensive netbook (Samsung N-120) with a portable USB powered external hard drive. The netbook had long battery life, and the external hard drive did not require a separate power adapter.
We both used 16 GB SDHC cards. You need to save pictures to the external hard drive, and then format the memory card. I did this religiously, and had no problems. If you have new memory cards, make sure that they work BEFORE you go.
Have a great trip!

Thanks, great advice about the memory. It's my biggest worry.
