i just moved up from p&s to a used nikon d70. thanks to all your help and advise. im still in auto mode and learning my manual (thanks Ed) good day

some nice eye you have, nice composition.
Get to know your camera instinctively and your comfort level will grow very quickly RTDM and play, shoot shoot, keep posting you are a natural

Les, You seem to be off to a good start. The images could use some brightening but you'll have to be carefull that you don't blowout your highlights. I like the composition of 1,3. I'm so glad to see someone who's not afraid to shoot in the early morning when the light is much nicer than from 10~3.

Very good!!! I up-graded from 35mm awhile back to a d70. For me it was like turning on a light switch. Last year I got a D5100. (Picture taking is habit forming). Read the manual, then re-read it, and keep shooting!! :thumbup: :thumbup: . You do have quite a good eye for images/composition. :) Looking forward to seeing more of your images. This is by far the best site to learn from. As MT Shooter quotes "When in doubt, shoot again". Good luck :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: 8-) .

I don't see how you could improve on the pictures by going to manual setting

Woodworker, there are times you want the camera to do things it cant understand by it's self, like 30 sec exposures. Then manual is a must, I like slow shutter on moving water, no AUTO can give you that.
