I shot these two years ago. My sister-in-law wanted some pictures of her son playing ball.
I love to shoot action of any kind.
I still need alot of practice. These photos have been cropped.
Any advice is always welcome.
Great shots...love the facial expressions

Thanks magicunicorn
I had fun shooting them and his mother liked them also.
Highplains,
Nice action shots. Would like to see the ball as it is released in one of these shots.

Nice job. Camera, lens?
Thank you juicesqueezer.
Equipment = Pentax K10d, Tamron 70-300 1:4-5.6 Tele-Macro
These photos were all shot hand held. I do have tripod and monopod but I feel freer without them.
I would love to upgrade to better equipment. Preferably Canon. I think they seem to have a wider array of lenses from which to choose. Plus I see the majority of "pro" photographers at sporting event use Canon.

Thank you Don.
Here are some more. I do not have one that is just at point of release. Next time I shoot a game I will try firing on burst and hope to get some better shots to choose from.
He sure has the pitcher's face!
First, nice job, second, your gear is fine. Normal photography rules rarely apply when shooting sports, definitely use burst mode and don't be afraid to crop, all the pro's do it despite what they tell you. Be mindful of distracting background elements. I like the 3rd shot in the first set except my eye is drawn to the baserunner every time. IMO your depth of field is too deep, try stopping up to throw the background out of focus. Next time you shoot bring a small step ladder and try shooting some shots from a higher angle, it makes it easier too eliminate other players, umps, and unwanted background clutter from your shots. Lastly, practice, practice, practice, If your not sorting through 500-800 shots from a ballgame your not shooting enough.
Cheers,
Alec

 #3 and #4 are the best of the lot. Good action and facial expression captured. Shoot HS and you'll get more shots of the whole sequence from windup to release. Thanks for showing these.
