It looks like your focus fell on the grass to his right. Are you selecting your focal point yourself or letting the camera decided? If your letting the camera choice what is important, do yourself a huge favor and turn it off and pick single point focus. You'll thank yourself later, I promise.
Yes I can see that now. I won't make that mistake again. The closest grand kids I have are five hundred miles away and I was excited.
I took a look at the focus point and it has several. I'm not sure where it was set, but not that's for sure. I'm using a DMC FZ 20. I am looking forward to upgrading to a dslr but things have happened where that is impossible right now.

I think that catching the moment and capturing the feelings is the most important part this photo. It's a grandparent thing.

All my family, including my in-laws live back in Canada, we are in Texas. We only see family once a year so I totally understand grabbing the camera and taking a picture quickly to capture a moment. I won't tell you how many blurry, wrongly exposed shots I have on my hard drive that I can not delete because it has the kids with a family member.
