Looking for a good but inexpensive slide/film to digital converter.
I have a large collection of slide and film pictures that I would like to convert to a digital image. I'm not looking for a service but a device that I can buy.
I have a Super CoolScan 9000 made by Nikon and I love it. Nikon no longer makes scanners and doesn't support what they did make, but LaserSoft Imaging does support Nikon scanners and makes better software then Nikon did. E-bay is a good place to pickup a used Nikon Scanner and if you are just working with 35mm size film, they are cheap to buy. Then purchase the LaserSoft software. I hope this helps. You don't need the scanner I have unless you want to scan 120 size film.
Try the Epson Perfection V500 PHOTO, will do strip negatives, slides and medium format with lab quality results. Sells for $150 but you can get it refurbed at Epson.com for $99.
Several members on UHH have bought these on my recommendation and have all been very pleased. I have been using mine for 1 1/2 years. Nothing out there for the price thats better. Threw away my Canoscan after 5 months and switched to the Epson.
Best Buy has comverters as well as Office Max just to name two. In my area they are going from $79.00 on sale to regular price of $129.99.
I got a ITNS-300 on eBay for $22 with postage. Had the software with it. If it were me I would look up Flim Scanners on eBay then book mark it and look every day tell what I want comes up and then wait tell the last 30sec to bid and bid my top price. Sometimes I win with a lot lower price than I would pay and when I don't win I don't have time to think about going higher. It seems a lot of them were from people who got them new - did their conversions and didn't need them anymore so they went on eBay - Dave

Canon makes a nice scanner. It scans slides, negs and odd-sized photographs. It's a bit bulky, but does an incredible job. They run around $200. I've been using one for about three years with absolutely not issues -- but for operator error!! ;)
