We have a couple of people on board who have done some extensive traveling abroad. It would be interesting to learn of all of their trips, where they enjoyed the most. Since Photography is the main interest...think of it from that point of view.
OUT WEST!!!!
Everywhere from Arizona to California, Oregon , Idaho, Utah, I can keep going.
But for closer to home, I love the Smoky Mts., and upstate NY.
Distressingly often, I've got a disproportionately high percentage of pictures in places I haven't really liked very much: Istanbul, China... I can get too comfortable in places I like (e.g. Hungary) and get too few pictures. But for sheer magic, both as a wonderful place AND a source of good pictures, Malta wins hands down:

Roger...thank you so much for your links...they provided so much more than I had anticipated..not only places but travel information. I've gone through a good portion of them and will take the time to absorb them more fully but I did want you to know how much it was appreciated.
I enjoy photographing in the RMNP in Colorado on vacation every year. Southwest CO is great also. Visit Zion National Park in UT if you can it is beatuiful... Of course Yellowstone and the Tetons are a must for photography.
Cape Ann MA, Provence, FR via barge, Viet Nam (Halong Bay, Mekong Delta, towns, people, etc.), the Hurtigruten RT from Bergen Norway to Kirkenes.

Dear Elle,
You are more than welcome. You might also enjoy

http://www.semiadventuroustraveler.com/semi%20india1.html (India), even though the latter is mostly about motorcycle touring.
Basically, as far as I am concerned, photography is a way to feed my travel habit. As long as I earn slightly more than I spend -- enough to keep the tax-man happy -- that's all I care about. The income is modest but the advantages beat the hell out of conventionally working for a living. See also

In less than a week, with any luck, there will also be some (paid for) e-books on my site, with free 'tasters' so you can see what you're getting into.

VaLast spring I spent 7 days roaming around the Smokie Mountains of W Va. Beautiful, beautiful country. The trick is to turn onto every road that is smaller than the one you are on.That means dirt & gravel. You will see some amazing scenery. I'm going to do it again this spring. Here are some shots to wet your appetite.

Don't forget the best of them all - Montana! Flathead Lake, Glacier and Yellowstone Nationals Park - You gotta love it. All these places are spectacular in Winter too. I spent Christmas beside Old Faithful in Yellowstone. Magnificient!
Off the continent, I have extensive experience in Peru and Jordan. Both astoundingly beautiful, but very different places. One key I have found is not to live like an American tourist when you're out of the US. You will get to see sights and experience things you never could otherwise.

Thank you all for your suggestions...they cover a lot of ground from good old American pie to the exotic. We're kind of all over the map in where our next trip should be and they're helpful.
