I guess I am going to cash in my tin cup, this week and pre-order a D810, any contributions are welcome....
Any reason you need to have the "latest and greatest"?
You may be able to save yourself several thousand dollars to use on other gear.

My tin cup is still full of pencils; nobody has bought one in years!

If he doesn't already have a D800, this is the perfect time to get the 810. There are some great tweaks on the 810. I like what they've done to the shutter. If I could sell my D800 for 2 grand, I'd buy the 810.

Steve - What improvements were made to the shutter?

Two that are significant, one of which is a game changer for some.
It is quieter. Nice.
But it now sports an "electronic front curtain" when using Live Mode to shoot stills. That means the shutter vibration happens when Live Mode is started and ended. Recording the image starts when the shutter release button is pushed at a later point, after the vibration from the mechanical shutter opening has subsided. For high magnification work such as with macro or long telephoto the new shutter is truly a game changer.

Lenf, could you use a half dozen newly sharpened pencils. I sharpen them everytime I get back to my flop. Some of them are kinda short, but if they'll help you get your camera, you can have them. No chew marks and the erasers are OK, but a bit dusty. I have to save three or four for my tin can, but you can have the rest.

If you would, please let us know what you think of your new addition when you have had a chance to try it out.

I don't know Dave you have some pretty good and comparable equipment now maybe should wait for 1 more edition as the 800 is still pretty darned close.

Thanks Apaflo - EFSC is a good feature to have. When deciding on a camera system a while back, it was one of the reasons I chose Canon. Good to read Nikon is adding it. I need to do some more research on the 810.

Thanks lighthouse, I have been waiting for the new real ease, I almost bought an 800 until I heard rumors several months ago about the 810. It has a few more bells and whistles than the 800.
