Can anyone make any comments about the Nikon SB-400 flash? For the cost of repairing my old SB-600, I could get a new one of these.

I have no specific use in mind for this flash - just more light.

D70s & D7000

It has tilt but no swivel.

Sorry, I knew it was missing one. I thought about buying one awhile back that was used for $75, but passed on it.

For the price of fixing my old flash, this seems pretty good. I don't think I would get my money's worth out of a $400 flash.

I saw the SB-400 somewhere for $149 brand new, sounds like a bargain for your need. The SB-900 is on sale at Best Buy right now for $399 too. Still too pricey for me as I do so little inside work anymore.

I've found it for $119 at Ritz Camera, plus a 5% rebate on my Discover card.

That's what's nice about photography. There is always something to spend money on.

Sounds lika a bargain. And you keep full TTL function, only give up a little bit of distance over the 600.

Now maybe you can sell your 600 for parts and recover some of that cost.

I'm tracking a few broken ones on ebay, so I'll see how they sell.

On the other hand, I might just take it apart - if I can figure out how.

I found info on taking apart the flash section, which is obvious enough, but nothing about opening up the section with the buttons.

As a last resort, I'll break it open, just to see what's in there.
