Have not posted for a while but want to mention that I look forward to checking my email first thing in the morning so I can peruse the Hog Site. Really enjoy the interchange and want to thank everyone.
I am a serious amateur owning a Canon 6D and 7D and a collection of L and non L glass. I say this not in a bragging way but rather as a reference point. The following photos were taken over the past few days with the Canon SX-50 which has an equivalent zoom factor of 24-1200mm. Thought I would post them as a way of saying thank to everyone. Hope you enjoy.
I don't feel these are fabulous photographs but rather I post them to show what I feel is really fabulous image quality from an under $400 camera. They all had minimum post processing. My best,

Steve

Nice pics, what are they putting on the roof? Or just putting on new tile?

Thanks for your comments......As to what are they putting on the roof; That is new construction and I think they were putting tar or some kind of sealant down, especially so on the seams before placing the tiles.

Very beautiful bird shots!

I'm a vocal proponent of the SX50! As you mentioned, it is a wonderful alternative to heavy, expensive gear.

I did have to ship it to the repair facility last week 'cause after 58,000 shots in 13 months, it didn't want to work anymore :)

Thanks to all for your comments.....I find it amazing that I can get some shots with this camera hand held that are almost or in some cases just as good as the big guns. Of course the sx-50 has limitations and the keeper rate is lower but non the less there is a place for it. Thanks again for you comments.

Linda.....Good luck with getting yours repaired. Let us know how you make out with it.

Terrific shots. It really shows what a SX50 can do. It's the big zoom plus the weight that really determines how much I use it, which is now 90% of the time. As I get used to it I find my keeper ratio is much higher now. It's like that with any camera, once you learn how to use it.

Did you check to see if you had a battery in it first? LOL I actually did that once. Took a battery out to recharge and then forgot and grabbed the camera to take a quick shot. Couldn't figure out why it wouldn't turn on. Then the lights came on!

Steve,
Those are great photos. What are your settings? I am still trying to learn to get good photos from my sx50. I have the same DSLRs as you. I'm happy with them but I still struggle with the sx50. I am inspired to keep trying by people like you and Linda.
Bill
