Going to Indy sunday for the superbowl festivities and to the convention center. Should be many photo ops of players and cool stuff. Which lens would all of you take. I have a D90 my options are limited........
1) 18-105 mm f3.5/5.6
2) 50 mm f1.4
3) 105 mm f2.8
4)70-300 mm f4.5/5.6 vr
5) 70-200 mm f2.8 vr II
I am thinking the 70-300 would give me the most versitility and the weight isn't overwhelming for an all day event. I don't want to have to carry my backpak all day.....it weights as much as I do, well it feels like it......

I would probably go with the 70 to 200. Make sure they will allow you to take photos.

I would go with my little Canon S95 Point & Shoot and enjoy the event. If an opportunity presents itself, then at least you have something to snap a few shots with. If you don't have an opportunity, then you won't have to lug a big DSLR around your neck. Like someone already mentioned, you'd better make sure cameras are allowed---especially big ones. Since every cellphone has a camera, I doubt they are too concerned with small point and shoots, but a big DSLR with 200mm zoom might look like you are trying to capitalize on the event.

I don't have a point and shoot, my enjoyment will be being able to get some great shots.

If you can take two I'd take the 70-300 and the 18-105 between the two you'd be covered

Then I would definitely take the 70-200 mm f2.8 vr II. I'd rather have the speed over reach. You can always crop if you want a close-up with this lens.

I, too, feel the need for speed. Can you do two? Another vote for 70-200 plus take the 50.

My vote would be the 70-200. Of the two zooms, it has the lowest f-stop and has VR, which may give you an advantage.

Hope you are familiar with downtown Indy. Lots street closings and parking restrictions. Assume you are driving in. Good luck!!

I'm with Pepper take both lens she mentioned. You could always get a lens pouch to hang from your belt for the lens not on your camera at the time.

Got to agree with this for the most range versatilty with your selection, but I think the faster 70-200mm F2.8 might be better and can be cropped..

If you have the funds, get this Nikon TC 20E lll AFS tele-extender. It will get you to 600mm with your Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VRll AFS lens. Because it is AFS, it will play really well with your 70-200 VR ll which is AFS lens. Here is a photo taken with this combo:
