Lightroom 5 can be used for probably 90-95% of all your post processing needs. Photoshop is usually used for the other 10%, but IMHO, is not necessary. You can use LR 5 to import your photos, organize your photos, perform PP adjustments (ie: especially if you shoot in RAW), and then export your photos to either an online site and/or onto your hard drive for transferring or printing the photos. I absolutely love it!!

^^^THIS.

Plus, it's better to "OWN" your own copy of the software than to rent space on some "server in the sky." After a couple of years of that you would have paid for the program several times over!

[quote=MtnMan]If you are only going to have one program I suggest you consider Photoshop Elements 12. It does everything you can do with Lightroom plus it enables you do much more in editing by using layers. If you can wait it goes on sale from time to time at Costco and elsewhere for $49.

MtnMan,
(Love the name BTW) Now you just threw a monkey wrench into the mix! :) So we have Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Photoshop Elements? Seems Adobe is cornering the market just a tad? This is just a hobby for me, I have MUCH to learn, both in photography, and PP. I need to take baby steps, the price isn't that much of a concern to be honest. It's the learning curve that worries me. I want to invest in something I can learn. (I guess I should say learn with the least amount of frustration) :-)
Thanks!
Andy

If it's the learning curve...then Lightroom will do the job. LIGHT-YEARS easier to learn than Photoshop. I've been using PS in my work for many years and I've just scratched the surface.

Bob,
I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get it. I messed with Photoshop in the late 90's maybe early 2000? (I think it was PS4?) It seemed very complex. (maybe that is part of the reason I'm leaning toward LR) I guess what worries me is they are all made by Adobe, so I'm thinking the learning curve will be just as hard..?

Well...to me, they are as different as night and day.

Lightroom is like a "darkroom" for "digital" instead of film, and if you think of it like that...then it's darned easy to understand.

You can email me if you have any questions.
