I currently use the Sigma 30mm 1.4 EX DC HSM lens on my Nikon D300 but I find it a little restrictive. I have an opportunity to get what I paid for it and buy a Sigma 24-70 2.8 EX DG lens for $100 more which I feel I would get more use from. Has anyone used the Sigma 24-70 2.8 lens? Any and all comments welcome .........

Thanks

The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG lens is a beauty as well as a bargain in fast glass. I have used one for 5 years now on everything up to a Nikon D800E, great lens.

Bought the Sigma 24-70 2.8 this morning. Paid $350 and it is a beautiful lens in like new condition with storage case. Big, Heavy and made in Japan. Will go out this weekend and test it out. So far it seems to lock focus correctly and is quite fast. In my opinion, while the focus is not silent like an HSM lens, it is certainly not loud like some have complained about. So far I am happy.

Just purchased my Sigma 24-70 about six months ago,
It now has become my go to lens

I would highly recommend the Sigma line, it just seems to work well especially for the price

I have a Nikon D 610.. among the lenses lying around from my previous film cameras are three superb lenses.
Canon L-series 24mm f 1.4 Prime lens, FD mount, and Leica "R" type 50mm f 2.0 Summicron lenses (two, one made in Germany and the second one made in Canada.
I will be grateful for any info as to how I can use these lenses on my full frame Nikon DSLR.
Thank you.

Hi Reindeer, sorry to say but you are hijacking someone elses thread with your question.
You really should post a fresh question of your own and ask admin to delete this one, or get yours shifted to a new fresh thread.

Have bad news. Had to return the lens. It had something wrong with it and the man at the camera shop could not explain it either. Worked fine except when zoomed past 50mm the pictures were on the dark side. They progressive got darker as the lens was zoomed. He told me that this was a 2.8 lens and should not be doing this. It was tried on a different camera with the same results. BUMMER! Was such a nice lens and except for this darkness issue, it was a nice lens.

I am not totally surprised. When something is under-valued like that lens was there is always a reason to be wary. At least they took it back. I just sold the same lens last week for $825 used and thought that was a bargain.

Did they advertise it as a perfect working order lens, or did they advertise it as having a problem?
There is a reason they had it so cheap.
Hit them up for a replacement lens instead of money back.
Sounds like they were trying to swindle a sucker and it didn't work out for them.
Yes, I am a cynical b@$7@2#.

Sorry Lighthouse. I did not intend to "highjack" anyone's thread. I will post a new one.

The $825 version is the HSM lens. The one I returned was not motorized.

No they just advertised it as a used lens. The sales guy seemed as surprised as I was the lens was doing what it was doing. They are a reputable camera shop as I have dealt with them for over a year now and have never been sorry. S**T happens! This shop deals only in used equipment so when they get something in they give it a quick going over. Sometimes malfunctions do not show until the lens is used. I really do not believe they tried to pass of a dud lens.
