105 Macro

I was just on Little Cayman in the Caribbean using my 105 macro and focusing on little critters when a very large Loggerhead turtle showed up right alongside me. I switched my D7000 to video mode and recorded what I could. That night I showed my video to the other 50 or so people at the Digital Shootout screening and was informed that the 105 mm Macro was probably the hardest lens to shoot wide angle with. Everyone got a chuckle out of that comment, especially me. Have to shoot with what is on the camera when underwater :-)

That is cool isn't it. I have a video of a couple of green sea turtles mating under water it is pretty entertaining. They get used to me I think as I snorkel quite a bit and I think they recognize us that are in the area often and know we mean no harm to them.

The first time I took my 100 macro underwater was at the Blue Heron Bridge and the first thing I came across was a cow and calf Manatee. The only thing I could lock focus on was it's eye. I pretty much shoot with a 60 now.

When do we get to see the pictures from Little Cayman?

Yep happens to us all, I switched from 105 to a 60 and use a SubSee +10 magnifier that can swing in front of the dome port.

I hadn't seen this product before. Does it affect your image quality at all? I emailed them for a quote.

I just put together my first video (includes the 105 macro of the head of a Loggerhead turtle photographed during a dive) and it is on my Facebook page if interested. This was my first video ever produced and edited from info I learned at the Digital Shootout in June. Video is to big to post of UHH which is why it is on Facebook. 3 minutes long with audio. If interested check it out at:

Tried the facebook page and there is a picture of you and below that is Favorites. There are two catagories there: Music and Other. I clicked on most in the other, and don't see a video. I don't belong to Facebook so perhaps I don't get to see all the options?
