Funny. My friend and I often go out shooting at various places and we count the Canon and Nikon users. DSLR's. He is a Nikon user and is so disappointed that there are more Canon cameras the Nikon. Try as he might, I will not trade or sell my Canon for a Nikon..
Both companies make nice cameras and lenses and each one of us should use what makes him or her feel more comfortable while photographing.
I have been using Nikon gear since the early 60's. The cameras have the same ergonomics and are easy to use. I bought a Canon, I believe it was a 30D and I was not happy at all with it. When I sold it and bought a D100 I felt happy again and in my humble opinion it was a superior camera to the 30D.
Simply stated, use whatever feels comfortable and familiar to your shooting habits.
this has got to be one of the funniest threads i have read in this forum about nikon verses canon
lol..i didn't know which camera to buy at first when i started out with digital..after owning Bronica cameras for years doing my pro work back in the good old film days..i started out very small buying a nikon coolpix..it was a small 4 or 5 megapixel camera..yet the photos were sharp and crisp ..so being very happy with that i just logically followed by purchasing nikon products from that point on..now i own several nikons including D7000s and D700..all my lenses except one are Nikons..never felt let down..that doesn't mean that canon isn't a great camera..and i don't go around counting how many use either one. doesn't matter to me..as long as I'm happy with the photos i produce...
Love you monologue as it made me laugh. But I do have one question and that is why would anyone even consider including a pointy/shooty as part of the discussion?

GREAT writing, Will. GREAT writing!

I owned one - briefly - its sensor attracted dust better than a Dyson vacuum cleaner.
It just might be that the one behind the camera, at the time, was just breathing in too deeply bring all that dust and dirt to surround his camera because of how great looking though it was. He was awe inspired! lol

That is very amusing and delightful. If you can't get that Nikon to work, you could always write!
Or Draw! But those darn people on the sport field keep moving, just can't do it quick enough. Same thing with animals. But I am able to draw scenery!

I recently decided to conduct a very exhaustive and scientific study to determine if Nikon or Canon is the preferred camera. In order to conduct the study my wife and I went on a ten-day cruise to Bermuda and I counted the number of Canon camera users versus the number of Nikon camera users. I counted only DSLR cameras since a number of the females with smaller cameras refused to let me close enough to determine their camera type or anything else for that matter. My wife said she understood why they refused. I accused her of being a sexists and she accused me of being a dirty old man, which is where we left that issue.
For the Nikon users I am happy to report that Nikon by a margin of four to one beat out Canon. Ok I discounted thirty or so Canon users who were technically illiterate and thus had purchased the camera without knowing what they were buying. I still do not understand how the ships captain could have owned a Canon and still be permitted to captain the ship. Well maybe because the captain was a female and did not know any better. My wife pointed out that at one port all the other ships were parked with the pointy end of the ship (a nautical term) facing into the dock while our captain had the roundy end of the ship (another nautical term) pointed into the dock. I asked our cabin steward why we had backed in and he said, Oh shes just showing off, which is typical of a Canon camera owner.
I had planned to take some pictures to post here, but since I have only had my Nikon 5200 for a little over two months, I have not figured out how to turn it on. I am just about to the point of getting out the owners manual but not quite there yet. My wife said if I have not figured the camera out by the time we head to the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots reunion she is going to start using it for a door stop. Typical of a woman who uses an almost eight year old Canon Sure Shot and thinks she is a real photographer. Once I get my Nikon turned on Ill show her what a real camera will do.

Now THIS is true scientific method. You did a great job! You should be teaching the people who do research for Big Pharma.

Some of us who own other makes will rise above the petty arguments that occur with monotonous regularity between those two inferior brand owners ... :-D
:D Canon and Nikon are watching each other so closely, they haven't noticed Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, etc. have passed them with their innovative approach to camera design.
I take it that "debate" has been taken. Just need to reel it in now, LOL.
Hahaha. That's what I was looking for!
