I'm spending soooo much time here that I will need an intervention to help moderate my usage.
I am in denial.
I also visit APUG and LF.

Do you mean "cold turkey"? Did that to quit smoking after 47 years --- a really tough way to do it.
I know nothing to help you as I'm having the same problem. Lol

While I fight to manage my time, I agree it's pretty addictive.
I find that:
*Surrounding oneself with individuals who genuinely want to assist and encourage you (free of charge) is therapy for the heart and mind -
*Many of the images allows us to travel to sections of our beautiful planet and view strikingly impressive animal life, plant life, sunsets, architecture, et cetera (from the comfort of our homes) that were purposely designed to intrigue and delight our senses. (that is therapeutic)
*Much of the work is a composition of skill/aesthetics and imagination which either opens new doors in our own minds, challenges previous concepts and invites new ones in (this is stimulating to our infinitely curious minds)
*The natural beauty of creation diplayed in the many photos, the creative ability and imagination of humankind as witnessed on this forum may unwittingly be tapping into a very intrinsic aspect of our human constitution and asking, "what is the purpose of it all?"
*et cetera -
Antidote for intervention: Prayer and self control -
:-D

Thank you so much for your reply.
I like your suggestion to get out and take some photos, it is raining here and so I'm posting images and replying to messages.
In a moment I'll hang it up for awhile and watch the playoffs --- 49ers & Giants --- kick off is right now.

I'm fairly new here, and I too feel the potential for addiction. In response, I have tried to analyse why the forum feels so good. Here's why it affects me the way it does:
1. Just when I think I do a good job, I look at the photos of others. It is a humbling experience, and humility is a virtue.
It makes me understand that I need to be better at what I do.
2. Not many of my family members or friends are all that interested in my photo collection. This site enables me to show my pics whenever I want to and under the topic I choose.
3. When a topic is created that interests me, I suddenly recall some good photos that I took a few years ago. In finding them, it's like seeing an old friend. It's fun to share them with others.
4. Getting a free critique is valuable. I am a better photographer because of that. Critiques here are usually kind and positive.
5. I meet new potential friends here who share my passion. Everyone needs socialization. Some of these folks even live near me.
6. Every time I decide to post a new photo, I re-edit it. It's amazing to see what a crappy job I did with my original edits. I am amazed at some of the detail in these photos that I overlooked originally.
7. Every once in awhile, several people post some accolades regarding a photo I have taken. I would be lying if I didn't say that a little praise feels good.
8. Learning anything new is an uplifting experience. The human mind, once expanded, never returns to its previous size.
9. The mind is like an iceberg. At least ninety percent of our potential is below the surface. (see attachment)
10. The forum provides a wide range of information. Virtually anything we want to know can be answered by someone here.
Any addiction can be harmful if is causes us to neglect important projects or people we love. The aforementioned is listed to help us understand why it is easy to get addicted to this site. Avoiding the magnetic appeal requires that we focus on what is really important in our lives and to remember that it necessary to do everything in moderation.

Spent the day shooting a waterfall & macros in Corral Canyon, Malibu CA. Now home, so I can relax for a bit by cruising UHH. At some point, I will upload images, then edit, tweak, etc.
