Must have been 2011 then, lots of rain last summer kept things greener longer. Here is an Elk family taken within a couple miles of your shot.

sept 19, 2011, I am so envious of you that live close to the park, it was about 1800 miles for us to get there. Absolutely the most beautiful area I have ever seen.

Back in the 90's I did guided photo tours through the park primarily for professional photographers who needed a specific shot, and rich people who wanted the pics but didn't have the time to dedicate to getting them. I advertised in Shutterbug and Outdoor Photographer, it was fun in the summers, but didn't pay the bills in the winter months, had to spend my winters doing Glamour Photography.
I hope you get a chance to come back another year.

As we say in the South "Lord willing & the creek don't rise" I will be back. Like to spend at least 2 weeks in the park just taking pictures. Last trip was 3 weeks but had to cover S. Dakota, Wyoming & the Tetons along with the park. Just not enough time. Drove a total of 5200 miles in 3 weeks and I'm getting too long in the tooth for that.

My big trip this year is Olympic Park for about 10 days this coming June. Then my regular excursions to Yellowstone. That camper bed just isn't as soft as it used to be!
