Another Texas WTF - Open Carry Gun Extremists Plan March Through 'Black Neighborhood'
byLeslie SalzilloFollow
79 Comments / 79 New

This one's a doozy. Even some of my friends and family in Texas are squinting their eyes, twisting their arms and saying, "WTF?"
The 'Open Carry Texas' group out of Houston has decided to march through a predominantly black neighborhood to 'educate' people of their rights. The first thing that comes to most of our minds? What if armed black men decided to march through a predominantly white neighborhood to educate… Wait, let's go one deeper. What if armed black men decided to march through a white 'Stand Your Ground' neighborhood to educate them… Let that one roll around in the brain for a minute.

There is talk the march was originally planned for Juneteenth Day, a holiday that celebrates the abolition of slavery. That would have been June 19th, but there was some sort of schedule mix up - you know, it being open carry, open season. They're very busy.

Also there is some kind of mix up as to the legitimacy of the group's proclaimed canned goods fundraiser to be held on the same day of the march:

Joe Deshotel at Burnt Orange Report, upon learning of the original event, checked with the local church that the event’s organizers stated they had coordinated with to do the canned food drive portion of the march. As one would suspect, the church had no idea what was going on and confirmed that they had not discussed any such drive with Open Carry Texas. It appears that the group was caught in a lie, as they were merely trying to create the illusion that this event was something more than just a bunch of nut jobs marching through a neighborhood carrying guns.

Long Lsland? It's Long Island, isn't it? In New York? Why should you concern yourself with what happens in Texas?

Last I checked, Long Island (or "Lawn Guyland") is still part of America. As is Texas, at least until they decide to secede. Is it not okay to be concerned about what occurs in different parts of your (our) country?

Better question: Why is it necessary?

Because it is a Constitutional right that you guys in New York don't have.

That's not an answer, but it's the one I knew I was going to get. My question is "why do you feel anyone other than a LEO needs to openly carry a weapon?". And for the record, "because he can" is the answer to "why do dogs lick their balls".

So really, why do you feel that anyone NEEDS to carry a conspicuous weapon?

And while I'm at it, here is the actual text of the 2nd Amendment:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

No reference to open carry.

I think they have laws against 'concealed carry' in TX. Open Carry Texas is carrying assault rifles into restaurants and department stores and are being kicked out. The NRA called them out for doing it by calling those actions "weird." OCT became angry cutting up their membership cards and threatening to quit the NRA. Then the NRA rescinded their press release and OCT is carrying their rifles again.

When that Amendment was written there was no need to conceal carry since everyone open carried anyway. Repeat in case you missed it the first time, everyone open carried.

As to the reason why anyone would want to open carry besides the fact that a man can not lick his own ball, is because he can open carry. It is a convenience to carry the gun holster on your hip. It frees your hands to do any other thing your dirty little mind can think of. It also depends on what he is doing at the time and where he might be going.

You have a picture in your mind of the old west were everyone has a gun on their their hip. It is not that way. There is no shoot out on the streets. More people conceal carry then open carry. I have both options in my State to open carry or to conceal carry. As yet I have done neither but keep my Glock locked in my car.

If you had had an open mind you could have figured all this out yourself.

And what part of this do you not understand? Besides each state having its own Militia to be ready to fight, each citizen has the right to keep their own weapons in their home and the government shall not, can not, must not make any laws that would prohibit this right.

Your State of New York goes against your Constitutional right, that you seem to so freely give up so that you State Government can have more control over you rather you want it or not. Your right to not bear arms has robbed another man of his rights to bear arms. You have no protection because you gave up that right.

Not everyone needs to carry a weapon. I never do and neither do most of the people around here.

You are right dljen, not everyone carries a weapon and not everyone needs too. That does not mean that they don't have the right if they want. It works both ways. You don't have to if you don't feel the need to do so.

I live in small town. We have this great big swamp to hunt and to play in and to enjoy nature. It is a wise thing to carry a pistol on your hip or a gun in your hand.

The NRA does not and will not support these tactics.
In other words the NRA denounces the Texas open carry "enthusiasts"
