Hmm now first of all I tried the fd lense with an adaptor.works ok but I wouldn't rave about it.
Now a local photographer that mainly does portraits n wedding photo posts on a photography club page I sometimes checkout. I noticed some of his pics had a yellow tinge to them.i asked him how he made that effect that looks vintage.his reply was it's a m42 lense that's screw mount and produced in the 600. Now I was very suprised as the fd was disappointing and his photos were crisp with beautiful boka.
After some research I found a pentax m42 50 mm f 1.4 for $150 and an adaptor that I was told to get as he went through 4 before he found the right one.
Now I have to wait before I can play :(.
My question lol sorry I can babble!is simply has anyone used a m42 on a modern body n if so what do u think?

I only shoot in manual n manual focus.

Often, those lenses that have that yellow tinge are Thorium coated against flare. Thorium has a slight radiation count to it. Lanthanum was also a radioactive lens coating used in high end German lenses. Some Lanthanum coated lenses were available in Polaroid 110 Pathfinders with glass from Rodenstock. The Rodenstock 127mm Ysarex was popular, sharp and contrasty, likely as a result of the Lanthanum.

I am not sure if I would put a Thorium coated lens in my pants pocket, next to my testicles, unless I had already fulfilled my anticipated quota of fertilization impregnation on the planet. (If you are female who opts for denim jeans, Ovaries may be a consideration for protection here)

Or I might as a favor to Mother Earth in helping control over population of the planet, keep a Thorium or Lanthanum coated lens in my pants.

A lead lens bag, like those airport lead film protection bags may be the order of the day. It will certainly raise some questions the next time you change lenses at a camera club outing....."OOOOOH! Get away from MEEE! with that ugly thing." she screamed.

Serious as a heart attack on this, and I know what that feels like, sort of.

A PetaPixel Link on old lens radioactivity, and in fact a Pentax 50mm is discussed in the link:

SPECIAL NOTE: as listed in the article, don't hold your Pentax Super Takumar 50mm lens to your eye for long periods. There is also a health article link in this Petapixel offering.

I have used a number of M42 mount lens on my Canon cameras. My favorites are a Mamiya-Sekor 50mm, an Industar 50mm, and an old Vivitar 400mm. I use the M42 adapters with the AF confirm chip. Manual focus is pretty good on the 5D MK III and the 7D, while on the Rebel bodies it is more difficult because the viewfinder is darker. The Rebel bodies use a pentamirror instead of a pentaprism.

I do like the color tone and contrast from these lens. These lens are also very sharp. I have other M42 mount lens that are not worth messing with. A number of them have terrible chromatic aberration and distortion.

I adapt my Pentax 35 f/2, 135 f2.8 and 200mm f4 on my EM1 all the time, along with my Russian 85 f/2. Depending on the lens, the aperture pin may interfere with the adaptor. I had to use a helicoid M42 adaptor that didn't have one, and then i gained the benefit of the helicoid (reduces focusing distance).

The Industar 61L/D used lanthane rare earth element in it and Mamiya Sekor did have some lenses exhibiting radioactivity, but the Super Takumar Pentax is the worst offender.

Both Hanes and Jockey do make lead lined briefs if you wear underwear at all.

while the standards are called by the generic name "Tighty Whiteys", the leadlined versions are called "No so Lighty Whiteys" and they chafe a bit.
