Sony RX100 M3

I'm considering buying the new Sony RX100 M3 & was wondering if anyone has purchased this camera yet? If so, what's your experience with it? Is anyone else looking to buy the M3? or M2 or M1? Do you think it is significant to go from 100mm (M2) to 70mm (M3). I would appreciate anyone who could give me their thoughts on these 3 models of the Sony RX100.

I have the RX100-M1 and a 24-70mm f/2.8 lens for my DSLR, so I guess I'll start. When I recently shot an event with the 24-70mm, I wished I had the 70-200mm with me also, because I needed a little longer lens to make some shots work well. So part of me thinks the 24-70mm would not be long enough for general use. But 100mm isn't a huge increase, so that might not be enough of a difference to matter. Meanwhile, the M3 has a f/1.8-2.8 lens, while the M1 and M2 have a f/1.8-4.9 lens. That is pretty special for the M3.

The biggest other improvement with the M3 is the electronic viewfinder.

The general image quality of the M1 is excellent, and the M2/M3 should be as good, or slightly better.

If the price works for you, the lens aperture and the EVF are the two reasons to go for the M3.

Have you considered the A6000? Since my purchase in April I have found it to be a really great camera to hold, use and is very flexible in terms of the lenses available.

I own and use the M2 regularly, and I have "test driven" the M3. If I did not already own the M2, I would go for the M3. It is a truly special camera. Small, light, high image quality. To get a better camera you will have to go for a DSLR.

You can save a lot of money with the M1, I did and it has excellent IQ. I do not need the VF or the hot shoe so the M1 works for me.

I personally feel the m2 is better all around than the m3.
1. Hot shoe only on m2. Great with the sony 20 flash
2. Longer zoom
3. 16meg most experts agree is very well suited for the sensor
4 while the viewfinder is a plus I feel it's overkill for this camera. The tilt screen is great on m2 . Never had sun problem.
5 hate when sony takes features away from previous models.

I can't quarrel with any of this. I really like the viewfinder though. The lens change is a real loss though.

  Yes, the M2 is really good.
I bought this camera to carry around on my daily walks as the Nikon D7100 is a bit heavy to carry on walks regularly. So kind of never leave home without the M2

Magicman - Could you please elaborate on the flash you mentioned here best compatible to be mounted on the Sony RX M2. Thanks.

While the zoom is shorter, it also goes wider, to 24mm instead of 28mm (35mm equivalent). It says faster, f/2.8 at 70mm, while the old zoom is around f/4 at 70mm and f/4.9 at 100mm.

The flash is sony HVLF20M . Works seamlessly with the internal flash system in the rx100m2. Guide of 20 which I believe doubles built in flash. Nice bounce feature as well as setting to match tele in camera. Will light up a good size room. I used for table shots and got much better results than built in flash. Small enough to put in other pocket. Fast recycle time. Check it out.
