I wonder if anyone would be willing to help me set up a website of give me information on how to go about setting up one. I have been asked to do portraits for a real estate agents who are transitioning from other countries to AZ. I am so young at photography but I seem to pull things off well.

I have not had a change to find out where we will be doing all of this and its all going to be happening on June 26th. I am going Wow! So I am turning to you experienced photographers to help me know what to take, what to consider, what to buy and where the best place to buy it in a hurry.

I am to take 10 different poses for people to choose from. They pay $30 for their choice. I think it's a great chance to get some experience and perhaps I will gain a clientele for the future.

I also need advice on lens, settings and maybe a place to get rental equipment.

Will I need an assistant?

Thank you ahead of time.

I'm looking for a new page myself, one that is already set up to sell photos, I just started using the free trial of Zenfolio, and so far it looks pretty good, and doesn't have a limit on pictures (storage).
On the other things.... It's always helps to have an assistant.
If you are taking head and shoulder shots, I like to have a 70mm minimum..on up to 200mm,
Indoors or out, I like to have an off camera flash(preferably in a soft box), outside I like to have subject in some shade, and use the flash to lighten the shadows under the eyes and chin. A reflector is very handy to help with this (if you have an assistant)...and if you are forced to shoot in bright sunlight, most reflectors have a translucent inner panel, you can hold above their head to dampen that harsh light.
I'm sure others will be of more help--have fun!

A friend of mine uses Zenfolio so I am on my way there to set up my account this morning. I will work on the assistant. If there is anyone else that can help with the other information I requested I would most appreciate it.

I have the reflective panels. Just order those last week. What about lighting an a back drop? Should I invest or rent something like that if it is indoors and they don't have a nice area to use as a back drop. I had another question to ask but it escaped me. Oh I know what about poses. Where can I get idea's on how to help people to pose and the things to think about like do I need a chair, step stool. These are more likely going to be used for business, ID cards and things like that.

There several good posing apps for your smart phone, that can be real handy, Also - look thru magazines and tear out the poses you like-take them with you in case you need ideas.

Backdrops are nice, but I don't carry one--You have a couple options; If you can get them 6' or more away from the background...and use a large aperture (like ƒ/2.8)..(and longer focal length helps 100-200mm)...you can blur that background out.
Or, you can speed up the shutter to make the background black or close to it. but you will need at least one flash--in a soft box or umbrella...and probly a reflector (or another flash).

The second option is also good for mixed light...if you are indoors, and there is a lot of light --say from incandescent bulbs..it is going to look yellow, where your flash is going to look white.

For a web site, the simplest way is to purchase a domain name (4.99 ~ 29.99 per year) that reflects your business or goal. Note that domain price varies from country to country...

Many ISP provide that service (domain registration) as well a space for the site and the domain purchase.

Personally I purchase my domains from godaddy.com and use dreamhost as a ISP domain host. A reliable, well known ISP is a requirement. Features will vary depending on the 'contract' you pass with them.

I use this ISP since 2005. I have had no problem and have unlimited web space, unlimited domains hosting, e-mails and so forth. I also have what they call 'one click install' that permit the install and customization of blogs, bulletin board (like this one). Note that web traffic price is always separated from the setup and is also a cost factor. If your traffic is higher than the contract allows you pay more or the access is blocked for a period of time, your choice.

To create the site itself you can do it yourself using software like coffeeshop (free). I personally used sitoo ($499) for a while but am now transitioning toward adobe muse (19.99/month or included in the 49.99 adobe cloud suite).

If you need more info pm me as I will be able to give you more details.

There are a lot of free trial setups available. They set it up and let you test it out. Actually since you didn't have to know code nowadays, most of them let you set them up yourself and they fine time them for you. Just google them and you will get several. The process is much simpler and less expensive that it used to be. Even Facebook has commercial pages.
