I have the Nikon 70-200 AF-S VR ED 2.8 and a TC-17EII. I am trying to decide whether to buy the Tamron 150-600 or sell the Nikon 70-200 and buy the new Nikon 80-400. I am interested in birds in flight. Comments and experiences appreciated.

I have the 80-4oo Nikon lens and just got the tamron 150-600
lens today but haven't tried it out yet. I ordered the new Tamron though for greater distance hoping for better pictures....

Tamron is good. ...birds in flight is not my specialty but at 500mm you will get very sharp pics. I find it tough to shoot at 600 but its not anything I have practiced. B&h has a very liberal return policy so try it.

From what I read in UHH threads and elsewhere, the Tamron is backordered at all the major places, with no firm delivery dates. So, your decision may be made more on availability or by how bad you need it in hand the soonest...

Hi Jabe! Go here and take a look at these links. I think he does all his shooting with the new 80-400.:) I have the older one and the new one they came out with will be in my bag before summer is over.:)

I just got my Tamron 150-600 for Nikon yesterday but could not test much outdoors as it stormed all day. The 95mm clear lens filter was $199.00 so factor that in your decision if you use a clear filter. It is a HEAVY lens-time to go lift more weights at the gym!
