Nikon D90 Question on Raw

Dear UHH;

I have had my Nikon D90 for 3 years, love it very much, but the problem I have been having lately, is that my camera (through Menu) is set in RAW.... and I don't change it. I shoot in M, A, & S. I set my White Balance and my ISO Usually at the lowest) I sometimes fiddle with my EV and change my F stops frequently.

Here is my problem, I will check before I start shooting and then somewhere down the line I will find my Raw is no longer in RAW but jpeg.

What am I hitting accidently that makes it change from Raw to jpeg? I know I need to train my eye to periodically check to see if it is in Raw. That is the only thing I use is RAW and it has been just in the last 2 months I have caught it shifting into jpeg?

Can you give me some tips on what I might be hitting for it to go into jpeg?

I thank you for your assistance in advance.

This is changed by pressing the "QUAL" button on the lower left rear of the camera and turning the dial. I wonder if somehow you sometimes press the button with your nose, and as you try to change some other setting you are actually changing the image type.

I use a D90 and that has not happened with me. I checked amehta's response and it will change if you turn the dial. But I don't think that is what you are doing. Have you tried Nikon tech. support?

ametha: Well, I do look at my pictures and hit qual, but usually don't use the dial at the same time, I don't think I do, but I must do that when this has happened I don't think my nose hits the camera, because I only use a tripod, but I will heed your wisdom and make sure I am not touching the qual and dial at the same time... Thank you this is worth being aware of....

dusty3d: Yes after I read ametha's response, I also checked and saw that this happened. Thank you...

Dear UHH; br br I have had my Nikon D90 for 3 yea... (show quote)

Don't the reset to defaults buttons (green dots) revert the quality to JPEG? Not with my camera right now to check yet that might be the culprit.

Hope it is!

4AHart: I will check this out...I just checked out and you are right, I set my bracketing (which I have been using bracketing lately) and then I cleared it and shot the RAW to norm... Thank you so much I bet this is the culprit....

Bless you... will have to focus on this and check it after I clear my bracketing...

I never use reset because I don't want to have to remember all the settings I have decided to change. I should probably just make a list of them. :-)
