It's not about making fun, Taz...and I don't take my advice on what to discuss from you. By using the word as a synonym for STUPID, it displays a complete misunderstanding of, and insult to, people with disabilities. I hope no one is YOUR family has a developmental disability. Actually, I am pretty sure no one does. If someone did, you would probably not be so ignorant about the issue. I guess if it doesn't affect you personally, it's OK. And there is no way these children are ever going to be repatriated. Did you know that any child who is "abandoned" by one or both parents gets an automatic green card? They can be sent here and living with illegal mommy, and if daddy is not there, the green card is automatic under a provision of our current immigration law.

Oh please. If you've worked with people with developmental disabilities (as you SAY you have) I would think you would be more sensitive to the issue. Oh well, class always tells.

Thanks taz. The word can be used in many ways. The photo and captions were not mine. Just something forwarded to me. It was, by no means, to insult someone who might be mentally impaired. I have friends with family members with "problems" and I have the greatest respect for them and what they can accomplish just with others motivation and encouragement. :thumbup:

I did not realize the "retarded" as in "retarded development" was now an outlawed word. We certainly have acquired an awful lot of outlawed words in the past several years. Soon the English language will be reduced to monosyllables. But by then, the official language will probably be Spanish, so it won't matter.
