Another lens is called a "2.2 X Telephoto High Definition lens." My camera already carries a 1,000 MM telephoto lens. So does this mean the new lens will double that? If so I think it would go from the present 42X magnification to 84X. Then the camera at its 42X can increase to 84MM if I crop heavily. Will I still be able to crop that heavily? Will it go to 168X magnification?

These are great accessories! As was said earlier, practice will let you see how they will work for your style of shooting.
You seem a little confused about the last lens, though; a very common problem for those who aren't familiar with teleconverters.
The teleconverter lens, in your case, will screw onto the front of the lens (obviously), and acts as a magnifying glass. It will increase the focal length of your original lens by a factor of 2.2. In other words, if your lens is set to 100mm, adding the teleconverter will turn it into a 220mm lens (simplifying a little). No magic involved at all. :-)
However, there is no free lunch. Any accessory, such as a lens that increases or reduces the original lens' focal length, will degrade the image. Letting you reach out to 2200mm will certainly be exciting, but I wonder how well the image stabilization will work at that range. A tripod will make this much better, IMO. As has been said, practice will tell you this better than I can.

Enjoy the new toys!!

What is a tulip hood? How do you use it? Does it make any difference if the two large lips on the sides go on top and bottom or on either side?

What do I use filter kit for? It has three filters: 1) UV, 2) CPL, and 3) FLD. I do not know what those letters stand for except for the UV polarizing lens.

They also gave me a "0.43X Wide Angle lens with Macro Portion" I know macro means a very large scale. So is this for wide angle landscapes?

You need to be specific about what camera you have and the brands and sizes of all this additional equipment you received. If you don't know anything about these new items how did your family know what to get you and whether it would be compatible with your camera. Once we figure out exactly what you have and what accessories you received for Father's Day we'll be in a better position to help you understand what they are for and how to use them.

Mine is a Nikon P 510. It does not accept many accessories. These, however are designed for that camera and adjust it to the rather common 67 MM size receptor. I really like it.

As far as I know, the Nikon P 510 does not support interchangeable lenses. In your original post, you indicated you received additional lenses. Am I misunderstanding you?

No, they do not support almost any accessory. For most people, they are not really all that necessary. I, however, enjoy playing with the camera to see what it can do. My wife got me a kit of accessories made expressly for the P510. So far I have not had much opportunity to try them out, but thy look up to the job. I had read about them in a Kindle book on the 510 that I purchased on Amazon. Amazon is where the kit is. Does that help?

I have the .45x wide angle macro lens. If it's like your .43x lens, the part of the lens marked macro unscrews from the front part which is the larger part. When both parts are screwed together it will cut the focal length of the lens it is attached to by .43x, giving a wider angle. For example a 28mm lens becomes a 16mm lens (28 -(28 x .43). By itself the unscrewed macro portion of the lens(smaller portion) does a nice job of zooming in on small objects. See attached pic. The only thing with using the wide angle lens is I generally need to use photoshop to straighten out the barrel distortion, when I'm using it on an already wide angle lens to get an even wider angle. Also, if it is used on a FF sensor it may well produce vignetting, but I have not found this on my DX sensor.

Oh, many many thanks. Mine comes apart too and I had no idea why. I have not had a chance to play with it yet. So, if I understand, unscrewed the bottom small part alone does the pic like the nickle--up close? Then using your formula, my 24MM becomes a 10.32MM. And the two parts together renders the wide angle like the comparative pic of you room? Am I right? As for the vignetting, I am certain I will get that and I plan to take a larger pic than desired and then use cropping to return it to the squared shape of a pic by cutting off those corners.

I just got a free app for my Samsung Galaxy android that I can point to the sky and it tells me what star I am looking at. Then I can attempt to snap it. I will have to get way out of town, however, before I can have much success with that due to the street lighting here.
