That's quite a step up. When I was in Genoa, Italy in 1969, I walked into a "restroom" and discovered a series of holes in the floor, with two foot rests on either side. Rather crude, but I had to do some serious business "communing with Nature". As I was crouched over my particular hole in the ground, a little old lady walked in, hitched up her skirts and crouched over the hole right next to me. If you have ever wanted to see a beet-red sailor dying from embarrassment, that would have been the time.
