A bright cold day so took a ride to on of my favorite lakes. I got lucky, had a pair of swans showing off for me.
C&C welcome.

The first one would be great...if the giant reed wasn't in the way. Like the second one the way the reeds draw your eye to the swan.
Is this better? I was a little leary of removing that reed with PSE10. Had never tried anything that size before but it seemed to work out OK.
Jim D
Yes, it is much better.
Next time you shoot though, try to leave some room in front of the birds for compositional reasons.
good results, nice editing

I am not quite sure what you meen by "compositional reasons. Can you explain? Here is the original in JPEG format. Could not load the raw (CR2) file. Would you have cropped it differently?
Jim D
Wasn't able to download either of those files.
What I mean is, your pictures would look better if you gave the swan somewherere to go in the picture. We should always remember to give our subjects somewhere to go, whether it's where is the subject looking, where is that boat going, where is that plane going, where is that swan going? When we crop too close, the picture becomes a snapshot and not a photo that tells a story. Allowing room for something like movement in your picture is always a good compositional rule we should all take to heart in our photos.
Ok, now I see a picture. This looks better than the original post, but still get rid of that reed sticking up in front of the bird. I also like the reflection of the swan here too.

OK, lets give it another try. I greatly appreciate your input, and everyone elses too! This how I learn, or at least try to learn. I admit I am a little slow at times and very thick headed at times!

I went back and tried to open up the second photo but could not do muck with it. This is the way it was taken.
