This past Sat & Sun was the Rockford, IL. annual Airfest. This year I finally had a chance to make it. Sadly the weather was crap. The sky was so overcast and gray it was very difficult to get any really clear shots with a decent background. This is what I found to be the best I got out of over 600 frames. If all you have is eggs then make egg salad. I hope you like them and thanks for looking. Your pithy comments are always welcome.

Well I think you did a great job with what you got handed. Love to see the old birds flying. Thanks!!!

I need to mark my calendar for next year. Sorry I missed this. I pass through Rockford several times a year on my way to Crystal Lake to visit the grandkids. Where in Lake Co. Are you?
You did well for the crummy weather. Thanks for sharing them with us. Love anything to do with planes. :-) Cheers.

I went to aircraft mechanic school right on the airport property and worked for a little over a year at UPS on the other side. It's sad that commuter airlines come and go. People would rather take a bus an hour or so to fly out of O'Hare rather than leave from their local treasure. There is (was?) a nice rarely used terminal there. When I lived there, Northwest Express flew daily flight out of KRFD. We have that same problem here at Scott AFB/Mid America Airport.

It's sad that those things happened. When I was working(as a union electrician), I did a lot of shutdowns at Byron NPS. We all used to stay at the Airport Inn because it was the nicest "cheap" motel in the area(and the only one not owned by Arabs). I loved to drive by the back side of the airport on the way to work on 2nd shift and see all of those vintage planes parked by that hanger. I was told that they were owned by members of "The Confederate Air Force". I always wondered if they offered tours, but never found out.

There is a warbird restoration facility at the airport. I've seen an L-39 (flying), a mustang and a couple others there. I think the planes are privately owned, but am not sure. PS. It's now called the Commemorative Air Force. I guess some of the boys down south were offended at the original name. (just a guess)
