I am looking to go full frame. I am looking at Sony because I currently own 2 wonderful Minolta Maxxum AF lens.(50mm f2.8 macro and 28-135 f4-5.6) They can be used on Sony a-mount. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

IMHO, the A850 is still one of the best cameras Sony ever made. Wish I had one! The differences between it and the A900 are very minor, and some say, not worth the $700 difference in price when first introduced. I haven't checked lately but they were going for about $1,000 on eBay. Problem I have is there is no way to tell the shutter count on Sony's. I'd hate to buy a mint looking body with 300,000 clicks on the shutter, but I may anyway!

I own the A850 and the 28-135 is my every day go-to lens. I bought mine used 20 years ago and it's still my favorite. They make a wonderful couple :) Beyond that, there are many first class lenses that you can add to your collection when the time comes. I have several, but none gets the use that the 28-135 gets. If you have any questions about the 850, just ask. A number of us on the hog have it and love it.

Yes indeed. I used it on my Maxxum 7000 and 800si before I got the A850. It was a gem on all of them.

Either camera would be a really great addition to your gear.

And as stated earlier, there is very little difference feature wise between the two models. Both produce high quality images, especially when married to certain Minolta Maxxum AF & G lenses, Carl Zeiss A mount, and Sony G lenses.

I should add that both have been surpassed in image quality and functionality by the Sony A99. And if you just want full frame without ALL the DSLR style shooting capabilities, you can get into the Sony A7/7R with an LA-E4 adaptor.

IF the modern features are not a must however, you can't go wrong with the A900/850.

Don't dick around. Get the A99 if you're looking for an A mount. You'll never regret it!

the a-99has all the new bells and whistles but for a good solid camera a used a-850 is hard to beat.

I'd go for the a900 with it's better VF and higher frame rate and I don't think that second hand values are all that different. Great camera and the 28-135/4-4.5 is a great combo.

Thanks for the tip Peekayoh but my Sony A580 is not supported by this program. Must be just the newer models.

Ah well, it works for the A850/A900 if you ever think of getting one of them.

It would be good to consider the A99. Some photog reviews call it the best DSLR ever produced so far.
