What does the limit and full switch on a nikon micro 105mm lens mean and do?

"Full" range allows the camera to focus as close as 6-inches for macro.

"Limited" range causes the lens to act like a traditional short telephoto, focusing no closer than 1/2-meter.

Both modes will focus to far distant subjects (aka infinity).

Controls whether the lens will focus throughout its range (Full) or only in the "far" range (Inf-0.5m). Far basically turns it into a normal range lens to keep the focus from hunnting in the macro range when you're shooting things at a distance.

First of all, which 105-mm lens? 105D or 105G?

I have owned/used both, and each is excellent. In UHH Classifieds, I sold an immaculate 105D for US$450, and it was snapped-up immediately. Current owner is quite happy.

As my hand-held macro-photography became a bit more shaky with age, I "upgraded" from a 105D (no VR) to a 105G (VR2).

Both are excellent glass. The 105G is heavier, because the focusing motor is in the lens, but quieter than the 105D. The 105D extends length with closer macro subjects; the 105G is internal focus, never changing length.

But I will bet you your "G" lens that you didn't sell your "D" for $200, its way too nice a piece of glass to let go for that.

Actually I already have one. But several of the members of my photo club borrow mine regularly and would LOVE to be able to afford their own. I would like to find one on the cheap to donate for a "club" lens.

Looks like a steal and a good idea. We have only the manual focus 105 micro...and 10 Canon 100's. (but not the new one with VR)
