Thanks for your information. The Reserve Center, CAP, NYPD Aviation Unit and Coast Guard Air Station were all there when the Navy left. The land itself was really left idle, the only use I ever saw was the flying of R/C aircraft and archery. I'm guessing that as part of the federal parks dept, it was intended to revert back to its natural state (whatever that means since it's a man-made island).
