Lightroom question

Does anyone know how I can move pictures from one folder into another one in Lightroom 5? I have a "mix" of photo "classroom" pictures in one folder and somehow my recent vacation photos went into the same folder. The vacation pictures are also in a designated folder, but when I try to simply eliminate the duplicate photos that are in the wrong folder, they are also eliminated from the "correct" folder. Thanks for any help you might have.

If I understand your question, the answer is simple.

In the left panel of the Library module, click on the folder that has the images you want to move.

With the images showing, drag and drop the images that you want to move. Drop them into the folder where you want them.

The images you want to remain in the first folder will still be there and the dropped images will be in the desired folder. This will neither copy or delete images.

Always move photos in LR otherwise the catalog will not know where the photos are

Careful with deleting duplicate photos in Lightroom. Remember you are looking at a catalog of folders and not actually the folders themselves. It's possible to have the same file in two "virtual" LR folders, delete one and actually delete both. If you don't still have the file somewhere else, like your SD card, it could be lost completely.

For deleting, just to be safe, I would go to Windows Explorer where things are actually what and where they really are and do my deleting from out there, then go back to LR and tell it to synchronize folders. I lost some photo files in my early days of LR when I wasn't careful yet. The LR cataloging system was always illogical to my head after 30 years of using Windows Explorer (I believe it was called File Manager earlier on) and LR chose to do things to my folder structure that I didn't want. I just didn't have time to waste searching for answers on how to wrestle it and get control of it.

Personally, after moving from LR to Photoshop CC which has Adobe Bridge in it, I no longer fear deleting important files because Bridge acts like an extremely enhanced and amazing Windows Explorer when used in "Folder" mode. It easily works with me instead of against me, so I'm a much happier camper now.
