I've been on UHH a little over two years now, and in that short time I have noticed that it is constantly evolving and changing. I looked at the user list and see that Jerry 41 is at the top of the heap with 34,500+ messages. Wow! I don't know how he does that. He must post over 100 per day. I don't see that many by him. They must be on a list that doesn't come to me...perhaps to another part of the world. I have to commend Jerry for his dedication and resourcefulness! He always has something constructive to say, and good links to share.

There have been quite a few that have dropped out along the way though, and I miss them. Some of them were very talented and I have learned from them. I miss horseart, and tilde, and MWAC to name a few that I miss most. There are others that I miss, but this is just an impulse message off the top of my head and those are the ones who I think of first.

Well its off to church now in a driving rain, but I am taking my camera bag. You never know when a great shot will pop up. I'll be back later to see if there was any response to this, and who you admire, or miss.

Thanks for the acknowledgement. On the negative side, maybe I just have too much time on my hands. :D

I see UHH as my social world. I've gotten to know people, if only by their avatars and the type of comments I expect from them. I like to learn about photography, and anything else, and UHH is perfect for that.

I, too, am sorry to see that so many regulars have left, although I was glad to see a few of them either leave voluntarily or be booted off. Some people are easily offended, and others are quick to offend.

Well, I've got to get back to the forum and see what exciting topics we have for today. I'm hoping someone will ask what kind of camera or lens to buy. :D

jerry, I find your comments and links very helpful, sometimes entertaining, but always on point and gentlemanly. I concur with Beagleman in that you are one of the mainstay assets to this forum, and we are all thankful for your willingness to share what you know. :-)

Jerry said " I'm hoping someone will ask what kind of camera or lens to buy". I have a question on a lens but not today. We will be gone for a week. Look for something on the Nikon 2.8 200mm in a week or so.
Some people don't mean to offend. They type faster than the brain works. I can't believe I said that.

I enjoy your posts and appreciate the help you have given me over the past year. I like UHH and I don't believe I would have advanced my photography skills as quickly as I have without all the contributions from the members.

Dave, you're extraordinarily dedicated as well! I saw elsewhere the time you commit to advancing your expertise and knowledge of photography. Your dedication is an inspiration and is remarkable.

Kudos to the regulars here that keep this a fun, civil and informative resource. I, too, wonder where some of you find the time. Maybe you type and think faster than the average bear. Again, thanks for all you do.

Well I'm back. I see that Jerry was right on it. That's great. Also thanks for the compliment Lucan, it's nice to know that someone reads your posts. I consider Lucan the "Guru" on mirrorless. Wish I lived nearer to Chicago.

The rain's over here for now anyway. The rain gauge says 1.6 inches and my North field is flooded. I feel for my renter. He's already replanted some of it.

I'm somewhat ignorant of the A7/ A7r, but the Olympus (and some Panasonic) gear was my bag. I need to shout out to minniev and CDouthitt as well. CD's a real go-to mirrorless Oly EM-1 (by way of EM-5) guy, and makes GREAT pictures with his rig. He's very knowledgeable about lenses and adapters for the Oly as well. Two of my other stalwarts are Amehta and SharpShooter. One from the Nikon camp (although he's an equal opportunity kudos-giver, but tells it like it is), and the other from the Canon camp, and he too tells it like it is. BOTH are extraordinarily knowledgeable and very talented picture makers.
MTShooter is a Nikon guy, and is still pissed that Canon changed its lens mount back in 1987. He knows what's what when it comes to anything technical or model-specific, especially for Nikon... he's not bad with some Canon gear either. Smart guy, good businessman, and not very humorous (at least in his posts) because he's all fact.
CHOLLY, Peekayoh and Davethehiker are your Sony guys, as well as some others (about 150 or so on this forum!!). Their enthusiasm and entertaining posts are refreshing. I'm missing some of the others, but you're great!
Kymarto is a special jewel, and VERY experienced. He's a treasure of shooting-expertise information, and a Nikon D800 guy with a soft spot for the Canon 5DMk3. Graham Smith has awesome street-photog-savvy, and dresses well. CatMarley is a Fuji XT-1 devotee, and loves her new rig.
David Pine is one of, if not THE, most dedicated students of photography, in his retirement, and is excelling rapidly.
I could go on and on, but you all make my life more fun and enlighten me about something, every single day. Thank You.  :D

I had Olympus in mind when I said "mirrorless" Lukan, in fact, I've been in on some of the Oly discussions. At that time I had the Nikon 1 with 3 lenses. The 18.5 f/1.8 was great but with the other two it seemed that I always had the wrong lens on for the situation. Sooooo, I made a "backward" jump I expect you will think...I bought an Olympus Stylus 1. Oh, I know the sensor is much smaller, but as I decided for my photography lately I needed an "all in one package". So far I am happy with the purchase. The only time it has flinched so far is with close focusing. I attended a boat race yesterday and set it on "continuous" shooting with shutter priority at 2000th of a second and it really performed flawlessly. My only problem was in panning and keeping up with the fast moving boats. These were those little one person racers and they were really quick. I got 200 shots off and 10% of them were pretty good. Not bad for the little camera.

Sorry I got off on a "sidebar"!

Hey, I recall those! The Stylus 1 is really quite a sophisticated little camera, and it's weak point is tracking autofocus, such as in the situation you were in. There, you just have to "pray and spray", and let its frame rate and autofocus grab for you whatever it can. I love Oly cameras... They're very innovative.

And, you hi-jacked your own thread!
 ;)
