My problem is that paper I want to use seems to require front loading. I've tried to set things up with the directions in the online user info, and looked it up on utube, but nothing seems to work. I've raised the front paper guide, and used the "Y" guide in the back, but the paper won't feed. Any suggestions?

Have you selected "front tray" under "paper source" in the printer properties menu?
I've made that kind of error before!
Good luck.

I found that you need to load the paper on the right side of the printer
good luck

I have found that the rear feed is better for larger paper, e.g., 13x19 (A3). I let Photoshop control the color, or when doing black & white, use printer controls color and gray scale printing. Of course, in settings select rear feed and make sure that the software is set to allow same, plus check printer settings in devices and printers on my Windows 7 system.
Have found Canon tech support to be very helpful even though my printer past it's warranty period.

Maybe your choice of paper--you didn't specify what you are using--is too thick to pass through the rollers. I think there is a setup option for thicker papers for both the front and rear feeds.
Canon also recommends one sheet at a time.
