I may not be photo judge material, but, I just like it. Is it perfect, no, but the enemy of good is not bad, it is perfect.

it might have been better as a vertical including her feet.

Wow! I really like this I love the colors and the idea. I am wishing there was a little more room on the left for her balloons to float into, but that is about all I would change on this one.
You certainly didn't do bad on the placings and the competition was stiff.

Thanks so much for all of your critique! We had fun taking this picture! I would have loved to have given more space on the left, but there was a big pine tree there...
You would have laughed if you saw my set-up....my daughter was standing on a bucket, thunder and lightening was in the background (I was hoping to capture the lightening with the silhouette) and I was laying on the driveway trying to get as much of her as I could silhouetted against the sky!
We had fun, laughed, learned how tricky silhouettes can be, and after hundreds of pictures, chose this one! Thanks again for all of your help!

This is fine concept. I wonder if it could be made more powerful with a different cropping.

I have a touch screen laptop on which I am viewing the image so I can kind of move the image around and enlarge it with my fingers and thus use the edges of the screen to get rough ideas about cropping. When playing around that way with this image, I got an interesting result by "cropping" it so that the model's left hand (the one holding the skirt) was in the bottom right corner of the image. The bottom part of the skirt was cropped out and I also cut down on the left and top parts of the image a little. The result was kind of interesting.

As it is, the image looks posed and artificial to me. That may not bother others, but I guess it bothers me a little.

Still, this is a really interesting attempt.

I agree 100%. Everything else from the shape of the skirt, the balloons the colors, love the colors. If only it was portrait not landscape.

seems that you have an interesting sky to the left. I would like to see the main subject to the right edge of the picture ,so it would give direction to where the balloons are going to upon release. Also as mentioned before portrait with the whole outline of the legs. Just take a piece of paper and crop to the right side of your daughter and see the difference.
I personally think that the picture has now a little more interest. Overall, capture composition and colors are very good. Like all photos the it comes down to personal preferences

Thanks for your critique… I agree with you, I think it would've been much better vertically, giving more space for the balloons… if I were to do it again I would find a location, or a prop that would have allowed her legs and feet and what she standing on to be seen as a silhouette. Thank you all so much for your time and tips, helping me how to improve my photography!

In order to see his version the owner of the photo,Indy5 in this case, would need to post it in the PP section and give jgordon permission to crop and repost. No editing is allowed in this section. sorry. And unless express permission is given no one is suppose to edit someone else's image anywhere on this forum.
