My new VanGuard tripod has arrived! Out of the box it looks awesome, much lighter then my old one. It has a very solid feel and has no problems holding my camera.

As far as the pistol grip goes I love it. Squeeze the trigger and move it anywhere you want. The handle also can be moved to give more control. Going to give it a work out this weekend so will give my review then.

May have to try a pistol grip, can't get used to a straight ball head and my old 3 way pan head is as heavy as the new carbon fiber tripod.

Keep us posted on how it works out.

My old tripod had a three way pan head. This is much nicer and moves great. I never used a ball head so not influenced by that.

About how much weight are you putting on the tripod?
Curious because I'm interested in a pistol head for a 4 lb. setup.

This one says it holds 15.4 lbs. I'm using a Pentax K5-II with a Tamron 28-75 on it with no problems.

I don't think you'll be unhappy with the pistol grip Vanguard tripod as they are great products plus the price is right to.

Have had mine for about 9 mths and love it. If you adjust the tension right it even works pretty good while panning video

Could you tell me which model you got and if the head is removable? I'm looking at a Vanguard tripod also that I can use my existing pistol grip ball head with that will support my big Sig lens.

Hello zuzanne

It might work if you have 1/4-20 thread for you pistol grip.I think that Vanguard uses the 1/4-20 size on all their tripods and monopods.

I have the same setup. It handles my D7100 and a 150-500 Sig with no problem

OMG I love this tripod. Took out it in the garden and shot some flowers. It holds my camera rock steady and just squeeze the trigger to move it where you want. I got a remote trigger too so looking to do some really sharp images now. Will post some soon.

Youtube has some good videos on this set up. I got the GH 100 pistol grip head.

I have had the GH 300 model for a while now, A button on the trigger activates the shutter. IT is heavy but who cares when it is mounted on my tripod. Great accessory, love it.

You might want to look at Vanguard Alta Pro 284 carbon fiber its load capacity is 18lbs and weighs just under 4lbs with out the head. I own it and it handles my Nikon D7000 with a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 with no problem. It should handle the Big Sig.
