Any recommendations for slide show software? I'd like to be able to quickly put together 5-10 minute slide shows, with music and transitions. I tried Photo Story 3, and found it rather time consuming to use because you have to set the duration and transitions individually for every picture. I tried Movie Maker, which was a little easier to use, but the photo quality was poor, compared to Photo Story. Pro Show Gold is a little pricey, as is Premiere Elements. Are they worth it? Any other recommendations?
Depending on how many you need to do, animoto.com could work.
I'm curious about this, too. I've used Picasa, and if I have a wifi connection, I can do a slideshow within Zenfolio (including music), too.
I have a presentation of my images to do in a few months and would like to try something better than Picasa that doesn't need wifi as Zenfolio does.

Faststone Image Viewer does a great job and it's free.
I've tried them all over the years and they ALL have drawbacks. I do hour long shows that I have sound, video and stills in them from my Africa mission trips and I need to also burn DVDs that will work with TV players for less techie people. Premiere Elements 12 is my goto software. If it's on a computer with Internet, then animoto.com is good and I also like Picasa with my Google+ photos on the web.

My experience is that the FastStone Image Viewer slideshow is an exe file which only works on Windows machines. I want some sort of HD video format like mp4, so I might be ready to buy Pro Show Gold. Am I missing something with FSIV?

What are the drawbacks to Pro Show Gold?

Yes it is an exe file. I didn't know that would not work for you.

I'm not the OP, so it's really more important what they need. But they should be aware that it is a Windows executable file, not a video file.
Pro Show Gold is more than worth the price. Easy to use, great transitions, and basically is a money maker for me.

For me, there are no draw backs whatsoever. I Love It. It's a great addition to any photo work I do, Is a money maker for me, and very
user friendly. So easy I can do it. ws

I agree with Newsuan. I use Proshow Gold V.6. Great program, hundreds of transitions and effects. You can purchase additional effects and transitions, etc. All easy to use, and at a pretty reasonable price. Sometimes you truly do get what you pay for, and I would at least recommend a look before deciding on a free or cheap program.

Pro Show is what most people use. Very powerful and completely flexible. You can always use the slideshow utility in Lightroom, or Powerpoint, but they lack the bells and whistles to make a good professional-quality presentation.
Check out Ashampoo Slideshow. The virtue I found is that the out put is quite versatile.
There are plugins available for "Photostory 3" give a search.
