Hi has anyone any idea why the price of the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens is vastly different at Amazon for the Canon and the Nikon, the Nikon is much more expensive, is it the same Lens or am I missing something, Thanks Jimmy

Supply & demand issue maybe?... They really should not be that much different. Are they both from the same vendor?.... I bought a used one. An older model that did not have the HSM/OS since I don't utilize those features anyway when shooting macro... Saved a lot of money by doing so too... Mind you, my cameras all have built in focus motors so that wasn't a factor.

Is this being sold directly by Amazon, or is it from another seller, though Amazon? How does the price compare with Adorama or B&H?

EDIT: Adorama is charging $669 for both the Canon and Nikon versions.

The $999 version is an older lens without OS, and it's being sold by a third party. You will occasionally see very high prices for items that have been discontinued, often way above the original list price. I can't imagine they sell many obsolete lenses above the price of new, improved lenses. You'll see the same pricing phenomenon on ebay.

The cheaper one is likely a "gray market" item. That means it does not have the U.S. warranty. Check carefully.

It is legit to sell gray market items but a reputable dealer will make it clear that is what it is.

Ask the dealer a direct question, "Does this item have a USA warranty?" If they hem and haw...don't bother.

Likely different store prices & possibly a difference as noted above that one may be a gray market lens... Do they all say the same in terms of having HSM & OS ?

Sigma has it at $669 any mount. This is a recently reduced price from $969.00. Maybe someone is hoping you won't notice.

The OP isn't in the U.S. and likely wants the International warranty. I don't know if the gray market thing applies in the U.K.

Sorry. Didn't notice that. If the manufacturers have restrictions on warranty in the USA, why wouldn't they have similar restrictions in other countries.
Is it US vs the world?

With Nikon, yes. Not sure about Canon.

The other issue is pricing on the international market. The Sigma UK site offers the lens at 969.00GBP!!!!! That is close to $1,600, more than twice the discounted US price. Who needs an international warranty. I have a number of foreign friends who tell me they wait until they can take a trip to the US. Often the savings covers their airfare and some expenses.
